Title: What Is This Worth? Post by: Slider-Bob on November 28, 2011, 03:43:34 pm I saw this on Detroit's Craiglist for sale.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/atq/2697468012.html Seller asking $450. I think I saw this last week when looking through the Jeff Walter's book in average condition at $350, but I don't have my book in front of me to verify. Even though these are ice chests and don't have a compressor, I like how they look. This one appears to have the right lid sitting a little high. What would you guys pay for this? I don't think it's worth more than $200, but may throw an offer his way based on your input. Thanks. Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: Flightfanatic on November 28, 2011, 03:59:47 pm It looks solid from the pictures, but can't tell if there's any major rust. You should inquire if they would take a little lower on the price. I personally wouldn't want to pay any higher than 400. Is it a glascock?

Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: Kilroy on November 28, 2011, 04:25:48 pm it's definaitely worth a look Bob. no pictures of the inner tank, the lid lifted on the left could be not seated properly , i am assuming the panels are embossed. Cap catcher is missing, but not a deal breaker.
I question the "rare double size" story, i didn't think introduced 12 oz Kings until the late 1950's Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: mygoose101 on November 28, 2011, 05:12:50 pm If those panels are embossed and not rusted through worth the price right there.
Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: Slider-Bob on November 28, 2011, 08:23:32 pm I talked to the seller tonight. I'm going to look at it on Saturday. He said the top right panel does fit tight. He said it has screws on the front that look like they can be removed above the legs so the Pepsi Cola embossed panels can be removed. He said the 2 side panels have embossed Nehi lettering on them, so although it may be an S&S 700, it may not be the same as the one pictured in the Jeff Walter's book on page 153. This one has no casters on it, and no holes in the legs for them, so it doesn't appear to have ever had them. As Kilroy noted, it has no cap catcher (thanks for pointing that out Jim), although it appears it had a cap catcher at one time. I told him it booked at $350 if complete (which it's not because it's missing the cap catcher), so I told him I may be interested at $300. He seemed fine with that price, so it's worth a looksie this weekend, and I am interested. He said no real rust on the inside, but a couple minor dents in the galvanized steel that could be banged out. He did say on the underside (looking upwards at the bottom of the tank) there were areas where you could see some yellow paint around the edges of the frame/legs, so my guess is it was originally yellow at one time, which isn't a bad thing as I believe it was built that way. If anyone else has any concerns or things to look at, please chime in.
More to come...thanks for everyone's input. Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: Ltransam on November 28, 2011, 09:04:37 pm Now I checked The Soda Machine Section On OUR site .I beleive it to be a S & S 700 A Because It States That the 700 did not use removeable Pannels As Did the 700 Model A Got Love thie Information Jim puts on here THANKS JIM !!! Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: MoonDawg on November 28, 2011, 09:39:29 pm So I'm thinking that if it has Nehi panels on the sides and was once yellow, the front panels were at one time Royal Crown Cola. Or could they still be behind the embossed Pepsi?

Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: johnieG on November 28, 2011, 10:42:04 pm Didn't Pepsi have some yellow based signs and such?? Yes , but they were a light blue base with a yellow triangle framing the "Pepsi-Cola" Title: Re: What Is This Worth? Post by: SIGNGUY on November 29, 2011, 09:29:29 am I'll start out by saying I like these coolers, I think they are really cool looking..
but I've stated this before... the panels in these coolers are SUPER THIN Metal and if they are in rough shape.. you'll be spending a TON of time or money trying to restore them... it's not like restoring the embossing on a slider or other embossed cooler... so keep that in mind when considering paying more for it just becuase it's Pepsi.. another member bought one a while back, which was an original Orange Crush,, but again the panels where rough... so in my opionion , buy the cooler for the value of the cooler 200-300, not for the signs if they are rough... on the other hand, I've seen really nice originals with really nice signs in them sell for Huge money.. Orange Crush for $900 and a Cleo Cola original for 1200.. but again the signs where in great original condition.. Just my 2.5 cents! Title: Re: What Is This Worth? I thought the correct answer was " 6 to 7 thousand when restored" :tounge: |
