Title: Vendo 128-6 Compressor
Post by: pgorath on November 09, 2011, 05:48:30 pm
I just picked up a V128-6.  When I plug it in, the refrigeration unit on the inside turns on and sounds like it's working, but the compressor and fan at the bottom do nothing.  Just to see what would happen I unplugged the (compressor plug?) from a socket in the bottom of the machine and plugged it into my power strip and the bottom fan started right up...but then the compressor started smoking so I unplugged it.  I'm new to soda machines and don't really know where to begin.

the compressors start/run relay may be shorted, or it has some old & deteriorated wiring at that point on the compressor, did the smoke come out from underneath the terminal cover plate on the side of the compressor itself? it may be a metal-can or plastic box mounted directly on the compressor itself.

Yes, the smoke (or fumes?) came out of the terminal cover on the side of the compressor.  A few hours later I plugged it back in again (the compressor cord) because I thought I'd shorted the whole thing, but the fan kicked on again and this time there didnt seem to be the smoke.

Hmmm  I'd pull the cover & check the wiring just to be sure before you burn your house down.   :Oo:

Now then, I assume it's only the condenser fan that's running & not the compressor, so is it or isn't it getting cold now?
