Title: Lock Housing: I'm confused!
Post by: fabes on October 17, 2011, 08:51:06 pm
Hey guys,
I have my original lock housing on left (with red button) and it will not lock into the hook in my machine, so I got a second housing from another machine (on right) PIC 1.

PIC 2 As you can see, the housing on the left has a piece in there where the screw goes in and holds the red button in place. The housing on the right does not have this piece inside of it.

PIC 3 Now look at this picture below, the reason why the housing on the left doesn't work with my machine is because the piece that is supposed to go into the "hook" to lock the housing in the machine isn't high enough (1 vs 2). Therefore, it won't lock in place. This is the reason I purchased the new housing on the right side.

PIC 4: Now looking at the back side of both, they both have two entirely different pieces in them (A and B). I'd like to make the piece on the right to work with a lock and key, but I don't know what pieces are missing in it to make the spring go up and down to release the housing from the machine to make it work properly. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE AND WHAT PARTS DO I NEED TO MAKE THE HOUSING ON THE RIGHT WORK???  :help: :help: :help:

Just out of curiosity, have you tried disassembling the two pieces and taking the original housing, which seems to look better than the newer one, and mix and match the parts to make one assembly that will work?  Seems you could possibly take the upper portion of the moving pieces that does not seem to match and toss those, take the lower parts, which from what I'm reading is what you need to make it work, and put the lower parts into your original housing and make that assembly work.  Just my thoughts, but I would maybe try that.  Neither assembly looks all that complicated and should disassemble easy enough.  Hope I didn't "Dr. Suess" that one too much.

Ken,
I thought of that, but I have no idea how to take them apart. They don't screw out (see picture). No screws. Anyone know how to take them apart?

I think you are just missing the lock and cam?
The cam on these 110's is a tear drop shape. When the key is turned, it pushes "B" down unlocking the housing. When you can pivot the housing out of the machine, the latches will unlock on the main door.

P.S. There are two small screws on each side of the bottom of each. Not sure if they are the same though - would have to dig mine out to compare.

Tom,
I have taken the two small screws out and the only part that comes out is the spring. Everything else is held in place by the other two holes (labeled "NOT SCREWS" in pic 5).

You are probably missing the "tuning" fork clip that holds the lock housing in place.
I'll try to dig mine out in a couple of days and compare.

I purchased a new tuning fork clip and lock/key from funtronics today. But I'm still not sure how it will push down "B" to unlock the housing with the tuning fork clip and lock in place. What is a "cam" and can you purchase them?

Rudimentary drawing, but the cam looks something like this... Most machines use a round cam - it is what moves the latch or locking bar, etc.

Is this a cam? (taken from a pic on ebay). Looks like a cam comes with the one I purchased from funtronics. I think you're right, this looks like what I may need.

Pete,
I don't think the pushbutton housing and lock type housing are interchangable; however, I think I have an extra lock type housing only in my shed. I don't think I have the bottom piece and spring to go with it in other words. It is yours if I do and you want it - just pay postage. I'll post pics - may or may not be in better shape than yours I can't remember.

Tom, did you send the piece over? Either way, let me know how much I owe you for it. THANKS!
