Title: My Clock Addiction
Post by: jbrooks on October 10, 2011, 10:02:15 pm
Bought more clocks today, i definitely have an addiction for these things.  The Slice is pretty crappy and the Mission could be amazing again but the plastic cover is cracked and the light and motor need attention.  The Costa Cola just needs a good cleaning.  Anyone have some info on Costa Cola?

Don't know a lot about Costa but their cans say they where located in Newburgh NY and the ones I have seen are from the early to mid  70's.

thanks guys, hoping to find a new plastic cover for the mission if anyone knows anything about these.  The Costa Cola looks pink but in person it is red with a white bulb.  Keep in mind i took that picture at night with it lit and through a few layers of grime I ye have to remove.

I got this website from this forum

waynesneonclocks.com

but I think their clock covers are glass.
You can find motors for sale there as well as some light
components. Maybe an email to them can recommend
a source for plastic covers? .

Unfortunately, I don't know a whole lot about pricing and what most of these things are or what they might be worth.  I figure if I find something that looks like it might be unusual or not badly priced that I can post it on here in hopes of learning more or helping someone find something to add to their collection.  Not sure how many members are in my neck of the woods, so maybe I'll find something others don't normally come across.  If folks are tired of me posting stuff or asking too many questions, please let me know and I'll back off!

Oh, haha, took me a sec to realize what you meant about being camoflaged!!!  How funny...wood grain on wood grain.  I'm guessing you're looking for the ones that are a bit older than this one?  I'll keep you in mind if I come across anymore.

jbrooks,
I like that!
Just curious....On restoring clocks - is it frowned upon, is it cost prohibitive....
I would imagine advertising clock collectors do restore some of them?
I don't see them listed as restored much, but I don't search for clocks avidly. Is there a price guide for advertising clocks or is Petretti's Soda Pop Guide all there is?

oooh, nice clock johnie.  I don't know a ton about how to value them other than what I see here, on oldgas and using Feebay as a guide.  I think it is best to get them working and clean them up unless they are really bad.  Sort of like all the stuff we like here, keep it as original as possible

Here's a small collection that has a nice looking clock in it that you may be interested in.  Unfortunately, looks like you'd have to take the whole lot.  Clock may be worth it though.  Contact him and see what it is if you're interested!

The clock is a repro, as most of the stuff they are selling. Maybe 60 for the lot...

This is more gas related as it came off of a service station in NJ and I posted it on oldgas but for any not a member there I figured you might get a kick out of this one.  It needs some work but under the guaranteed used cars sign is the original sign, I have no idea what it is going to be, I feel like a kid at Christmas.  Boy did this satisfy my clock fix for a while.

it is still set up to be hard wired.  i have to have someone rewire it with a plug and fix the cover.  i hope that clock website you guys referred me to earlier has the part

Brooks,
Here's a clock that looks really nice.  I think it's a bit overpriced to me, but maybe it's worth it?  I have no idea on what these things go for, just seems high to me.  Either way, looks to be a really nice clock!

I would be careful of that Dr. Pepper clock, anyone else think it may be a fantasy piece?  I just got a great deal on this Champion Spark Plug clock and on Oldgas they said they think its just an old clock with a decal.

The red 10, 2 and 4   numbers make me think the Dr Pepper clock is legit. I thought it was a decal on the face at first also.

Good point Kilroy, do you think my Champion clock is real or fake, the logo looks so much like the Dr. Pepper clock logo as far as material and placement.

I'm no expert on clocks, but you should be able to tell if it's a decal  or painted on.  The champion logo looks to be aged, so if it was added, it was done while the clock was very new.

to me it looks like a decal, i have to take the clock apart eventually to repaint the frame and rewire it so i will know better then
