Title: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 27, 2011, 04:59:59 pm Found this a couple years ago on eBay, paid $200 for it I think.
Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 27, 2011, 05:07:11 pm Painted and cleared. Not buffed out yet.
Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: MoonDawg on September 27, 2011, 05:11:38 pm Sweet, does the compressor still run?
Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on September 27, 2011, 05:12:06 pm Nice - I love that little machine! I have two WD-5's, but paid a bit more for mine though.
I was thinking on re-doing mine in the WH paint scheme - does your ID plate say WH? I had a heck of a time finding that bottle opener bezel - one of mine was missing it too. Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 27, 2011, 05:24:44 pm Yes it is an original WH-5T. Can't I get the bezel from Fun-Tronics? That and the gasket is all I need, I bought a repro cap catcher already. I don't believe it had the Westinghouse script like the WD-5 did. I'm going back to original with this one. Nothing fancy, no extra chrome handle or kickplate. The only "option" I'll add is casters.
Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 27, 2011, 05:27:28 pm Sweet, does the compressor still run? I believe it did (so I was told). To tell the truth, I have owned it for two years and have never seen it. I had my paint guy pick it up for me since it was local to him. The cooling deck is being redone/refinished as well by somebody else. I'll collect all the parts and put it back together.Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on September 27, 2011, 05:44:31 pm Yes it is an original WH-5T. Can't I get the bezel from Fun-Tronics? Yes - I could tell it was an original WH-5T. I have two WD-5's with the all-red paint scheme, but I like the WH paint scheme. Just curious what the ID plate says so I can get it stamped correctly. I could not get this exact BO bezel from any of the suppliers - had to buy an old Westy external cap catcher to get one. Been a few years though - matbe they have one now. Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: cokecolaman on September 27, 2011, 06:10:21 pm Looks great... I wouldn't mind having one of those machines in the house.
Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: Flightfanatic on September 27, 2011, 06:22:31 pm It looks nice!

Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 27, 2011, 07:09:21 pm Great Job, came out really nice! Far from finished. Just excited to finally see some paint on it.Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on September 27, 2011, 08:13:03 pm Attached is a semi-blurry pic of the underside of a repro V-81 four-tab bezel next to my WD-5 BO opening. The WD-5 has a wider opening and instead of two tabs on each side, it has one on each side and one on top & one on bottom. Fun-Tronics also carries a Cavalier 51/Westinghouse cooler bezel, but it has six tabs. SJW offers the same two.

I'd hate to do it but new tab receivers could be put in the hole to match the part available. The old cut-outs would be covered and nobody would be any the wiser. I'll start hunting for the correct one. If a new one is not available, I'd prefer a used one and polish it up vs hacking the hole. Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: Ken R on September 27, 2011, 09:33:02 pm Is this the machines that is known as the "bow front"? Just curious as I came across an ad for one, but there were no pics.

Just curious as I came across an ad for one, but there were no pics. It is one model of the bow out chest coolers - Westinghouse and Cavalier made.Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 28, 2011, 12:35:18 pm Got another shot of the shell today. Still not buffed yet.

Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on September 28, 2011, 08:59:49 pm ....Does the bezel fit other than the tab alignment?..... My pic above shows the repro 4-tab bezel held flat up against the machine. It barely covers it, but it does. I have never seen the 6-tab variety, but either supplier could help with exact dimensions. The four tabs don't reach, but I'm sure something else could be used to secure it. Liquid Nails maybe?? Here is a pic of mine. It is different and the discerning eye could tell. Is the machine for you or to sell? Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on September 28, 2011, 10:24:18 pm Is the machine for you or to sell? I'm thinking this is a keeper. Love my WD-10, it's my workhorse, these chest coolers are so versitile and you are not forced to buy expensive bottles. This is the machine it would displace in the game room if I can bring myself to part with it. Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on September 29, 2011, 12:02:02 am I'd have a hard time displacing that machine!

It's hard to see but here's the tag Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on October 20, 2011, 12:13:41 pm Can you write out what it says?
I'm guessing 'Style' is upper left with 'Serial' to it's right and 'Model' underneath. Looks to be the same ID tag as mine, but obviously with different stampings. Thanks! Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: collecture on October 29, 2011, 10:24:06 am Which to keep.. Hmmm BOTH!I see you found the bezel - where? Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: red-hungarian on October 29, 2011, 12:12:54 pm This bexel is the same as the external WD-10 cap catchers, found one at Alan's in Granite Falls. Now I'm just waiting on him to finish the cooling deck to complete the restore. Insulated it with 3" of rigid foam on bottom, custom fit, and fiberglass on the sides. Should be very efficient. The rubber condensation drain boot was cut and painted over. I found an RV sink drain flange fit perfectly into the tub hole.

Makes me want to do my WD-5, but I got a boatload of home remodeling to do first. Title: Re: WH-5T restore Post by: SIGNGUY on October 31, 2011, 08:29:16 am Thats a great little cooler.. very nice!
