Title: Vendo 81's Wanted
Post by: SIGNGUY on August 30, 2011, 03:09:22 pm
Hey Guys as I posted in another post, I am in the need of a few Vendo 81's.. yeah yeah I know they are harder to find, but I'm sure some have a few squirrelled away.
I'm willing to pay market value for them if complete and cooling , or even consider machines, that are not complete as i have some parts etc...

I just have customers wanted machines restored and I've run out of inventory. Good problem to have, but the request jus keep on coming.

I'll arrange all shipping and pay immediatley..

Thanks
John

So what's the going rate for an 81d?

So what's the going rate for an 81d?

I paid a little over $1550 for mine last January. I've heard of them selling close to 2k recently. John is not the only restorer looking to fill customer requests as I've had inquiries.

I recently just sold a mostly complete 81B to (name anonymous) for 2k.  It was in nice, original condition and needed nothing except new paint, minor body work, new wiring, and a few parts (water coolection pan), etc.

He was happy to pay 2k for it, and assured me he would buy them all day long from me in that condition at that price if I stumbled on any more that I was willing to sell. He's in the restore business, and needs solid machines to restore/re-sell.  I guess you can't restore/re-sell what you don't have to begin with....

Looks like the market is looking up for the 50's round tops...

I think prices in the low $2k's are long gone for a straight and complete 81 due to the restoration shows and the economy making a slow turn. I'm sure you can still find em' but they are far and few between theses days. I'm sure we will see higher prices in St. Charles this year as well so bring your briefcase full of dough. Most collectible markets are making a comeback and it's about time.

Here a both of my machines I have for sale. Both have working compressors and the white top is complete with its original key. The blue top  is missing 1 shelf and coin related items... changer, bezel, small parts, etc. If you are interested, I can deliver to St. Charles in Nov. for free.

The market is still to  beaten and unsure in my opinion. And the reality shows have done some good bringing back interest, but they also left a slew of people thiking they can retire on their  run of the mill  machine. Yeah, I see  crazy prices  on CL and Ebay, but maybe 1 in 100 or 200 items are actually getting that over the top dollar.

The market for machines has definitely rebounded!  I have sold twice as many machines this summer than I ever have in the last 18 years doing this. From comments made by customers I can honestly conclude that the TV shows are really creating a positive influence.

I agree that there has been an upward swing, I've done more business this year as well than before and am booked into 2012 for restorations of customer machines, and fully complete restored machines.

I do however think the prices are not realistic... I've never paid more than 1500 for an unrestored machine,, ,yes I know if it's a nice original some wil pay more.. Like Jeff's nice original, probably wouldn't redo the paint on that one, just do a refurbishment,,, but I got customers wanting full restored machines, and to buy a nice original paint machine only to sandblast it all off is a waste of money in my opionion... I'm sure it might command that kind of money for someone wanting an original, but I'm looking for ones that need all new paint, need body work, and in the 1500 range...

John, I'll keep my eye out if I hear of any machines around your price.

 I see you edited your post Jeff - Did you get swamped with offers from people wanting to sell you a bunch of $3000 81D's? I was tempted!

Seriously, I bought my 81D machine less than 8 months ago for close to $1550. It was not in the paper or on CL or Ebay, but at an advertised public auction. Hammer price was $1300, but after you add in the taxes, fees and expenses... It is a solid machine that is complete & cools, but needs restoration.
I paid $1900 (inc. shipping from IN to AZ) for my nice original 81A about 8 years ago.

If I remember correctly, Rod of F-T stumbled across a $75 V-81B at Chicago last year. So deals can be found there!

The market has rebounded somewhat, but not doubled! I too have noticed a spike in prices (probably due to the restoration shows), but I can't see $3000 for unrestored 81's anytime soon.
There is a sucker born every minute and I think a few have shown up is all!

the 81 D's are drying up just like the generics.  I know a restorer that was trading nice 81 a and b's plus cash for 81 D's.  sure there will always be deals out there, but are you going to be the lucky one that finds it.  If you take the, "well I'll wait till the prices come down, you'll be the one saying darn i should of bought it when it was this much.  I know of 2 big time restorer's that have been hoarding/buying up every 81 D they can get.

I was curious also...or did you change your mind about selling it? I have had more people try to buy my Pepsi 81 than any machine I own.

i sold the pepsi 81 and coke 81 to a guy in cal. as a package deal. both with shipping was around $8k. they were both very nice machines with almost no dents or rust. i just bought 3 more 81's to take to st. charles next month to sell at the swap meet. hope to see you all there.
