Title: Info please Post by: on May 16, 2004, 05:31:42 pm I do not know anything about soda machines. I just like old things. Someone at my work is selling an old soda machine. I do not know how old it is or what it is worth. I am hoping someone here might be able to help. I will be able to get the model number soon, but for know I will try my best to describe it. It is approx. 5 feet tall. It is square. It has "Dad's Rootbeer in cans" on the front. It has the can crusher on the bottom right side (in the front). On the left side is the rectangle glass to see the cans inside. Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.
Thanks. Title: Info please Post by: on May 19, 2004, 10:43:56 am I have some info. It is a Vendorlator, model number VPA56R-A. I also have some photos once I figure out how to post them.

Title: Info please Post by: Bob K on May 19, 2004, 08:36:52 pm That is a great looking machine!
Title: Info please Post by: on May 19, 2004, 09:04:54 pm Can you tell me anything about it? I'm clueless! I looked at it a little more today. It looks like it may have been a 7-up machine? Under the yellow paint is green paint. It looks like there may have been another sign on the side. Around the Dad's sign looks like some left over sticky residue. There is actually two of these machines. One of them looks like it has a lighted sign in the front, the other does not. This makes me think that this machine was changed. Thank you for any input.
Title: Info please Post by: on May 19, 2004, 09:09:48 pm Both machines work. The one with the lighted sign (?) has a lock and the other doesn't. They want $400 for the one that has the lock and $300 for the one that doesn't. I dont' want to spend that much. I would like to know a reasonable price for these machines. From what I have seen on this site, I assume that this machine is early 60's. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Title: Info please Post by: johnieG on May 19, 2004, 09:14:23 pm yep! Nice machine! it's a Vendo VF56/12oz. can vendor, that "crusher" as you call it, is actually the can opener!
(don't know how old you are, but I remember the steel cans, & always listening to my dad yelling to my mom, " where the heck is the can opener !!!?) it's about mid 60's, very nice shape too! Worth is relative to want, ( my personel quote /patent pending/all copyrights reserved. ) in other words what are you, or someone else willing to pay for it, OK enough philosophy, I've seen simular Coke & Pepsi machines go between $350-800 on greed-bay, yours (in my opinion) is higher on the desirablilty scale because it's a unique brand (Dad's) on the down side, it's not a lightup & only a steel sign/decal'd machine. and on the plus side, it's a can vendor, as many people don't want to fuss with locating glass bottles & the big plastic one won't fit into an old bottle vendor like this. hope it hellps ...JohnieG Title: Info please Post by: on May 19, 2004, 09:22:33 pm Thank you. I realized today when I was taking pictures that the "crusher" was actually an opener. As far as my age, let's just say I don't remember these machines. I have not tested to see if the one with the lock lights up. I know that the one without the lock does have a steel sign.
Thanks again. Title: Info please Post by: MoonDawg on May 20, 2004, 10:58:52 am Wow, the Dad's "light-up" is rare and the condition of this machine should make it quite a collectors item some day.
Stop dragging your feet..... buy it before one of your co-workers does. (then you'll want it even more) Glen Title: Info please Post by: Pat Pixley on May 21, 2004, 12:14:37 pm That is a good looking machine , If I were you I would be jumping on that offer $350 and see if he take it .
Good luck Pat P. Title: Info please Post by: audiobeer on May 22, 2004, 07:44:29 pm With all the machines out there, this one to me is not as collectible in my opinion. The machine isn't embossed anywhere so it is quite generic. I would offer the guy $200 tops. I can buy these all day long in St. Louis as a bottle machine for $50 - $200 in Pepsi. I maybe missing the boat but are the can machines drawing more value than the bottle machines?
