Title: Vendo 384?
Post by: on May 15, 2004, 11:55:42 pm
I just purchased a Vendo 384 Seven-Up machine. My first soda machine ever, so pelase bare with me becuase I know nothing about these things. Quick qeustion, when I plug it in, the machine starts, then trips my circuit breaker on the house fuse/breaker panel. I noticed the former owner has several soda's in there that seemed to have burst and there is gooey syrup-ie liquid all over towards the bottom. Could that be the problem, or does this sound like something more serious? Thanks for your help!

Hi & Welcome!

First, make sure the outlet you're plugging into isn't overloaded with other devices, the machine should be plugged into a 15 amp circut, second, if the cans bursted inside the machine this could indicate a thermostat problem ( they froze)
if the syrup got all over the vending motor(s) they may be shorting out the machine, or more likely the Evaporators' fan motor's a good bet, they REALLY don't like getting soaked!

I'd start with the compressor, just unplug it from it's harness, & plug the machine back in & see if the breaker trips, if so, then the short's somewere else in the machine, if the breaker holds & the rest on the machines fans/lights/etc. come on then most likely the compressors locked up good  :(  if it has a lightup- sign, you can also unplug its harness to further help isolate the trouble, just carfully start to work backwards & keep isolating the components of the machine,

Evaporator Fan ( inside fan)
Vending motors
Compressor deck
Light-up sign
wiring harness itself, (crushed. chaffed, cracked insulation, damaged plug, etc.)

carefully go at it step be step & you'll find it soon enough!
Just remember you are working around electricity on a machine with a pretty good short on it!

Here is another good response to a very common problem, and should be highlighted in our trouble-shooting section.
In fact, with all the information flowing through this site, someone should publish a beginners guide. The number of first time soda machine owners seems to be rising each year.
