Title: 7up Deal Post by: David D on July 24, 2011, 09:06:42 pm Picked this up locally for $52, I'm thinking this was a pretty good deal, any idea what it's worth? It's a Vendolator but is missing the tag so I'm not sure about the model, I'm thinking it's a 56. Cools nicely and is pretty straight all parts including lock and keys, it's a ugly machine all brown with a 7up sign, was this a standard color scheme? Planning on refinishing it, probably Coca-Cola, It's also been converted to cans, not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: Kilroy on July 24, 2011, 09:12:10 pm The marquis is form the early 70's, No i don't think brown was ever a 7-Up color scheme. you did very well, it looks to be in good condition.
I'd think about a green and leaving it 7-Up, I love coke, but the sign reeks of hipness Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: MoonDawg on July 24, 2011, 09:51:22 pm The can conversion is definately a plus! :happydrinkers:
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: halehouse on July 24, 2011, 10:05:00 pm Awesome price!
I like the sign. It's "in" right now. We just got back from Target and were commenting on all the greens, oranges, and light blues that are popular right now. I agree with Kilroy. Think about changing the color scheme to match the sign and leaving it 7Up. I also think that it is a plus, with this machine, to have it able to vend cans. Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: cokecolaman on July 24, 2011, 10:09:46 pm Nice pickup! I would paint it green also and leave it as a can machine...cheaper to buy cans than bottles.
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: johnieG on July 24, 2011, 10:19:09 pm Gotta Luv the Peter Max 7up marquee!
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: oscar on July 24, 2011, 10:23:18 pm That's a Peter Max sign. He did a lot of signs for 7UP
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: pinballdude on July 24, 2011, 10:30:22 pm I don't think any of these were "true" Peter Max artwork. Its his style, but I think Peter Max would have been WAAAAY to expensive for 7UP to commission for as much artwork as there is in this period. Its "like" Peter Max would have done. I know, I know. Lets not get technical. But his art was expensive and moreso today.

I think 7UP could afford him after all they more than likely paid millions in advertising in the 70's. They used to be one of the top selling brands.
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: Kilroy on July 25, 2011, 06:50:13 am I don't know if Max designed the marquis for the machine, but he did do commercials for 7up in the early 70's. I also seem to recall an PSA he did for the american Cancer Society from the same time .
It was form his artwork for the commercials that I learned about him Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: mznb1u on July 25, 2011, 07:38:14 am I love the marquis on that machine. I agree with the rest of the crew--well bought and I would re-paint in 7-up green to match the sign.

Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: SIGNGUY on July 25, 2011, 08:51:05 am First thought before reading the other posts is the same, leave the sign and paint to match.. pretty cool little machine when done.
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: David D on July 25, 2011, 08:46:12 pm Thanks, I'm probably not going to keep this one, too many machines already and not sure if a Coca-cola theme might sell better than a 7up, anyway, does anyone know if this can stack will fit my Bud machine, it's also a Vendolator but different model same number of shelves. I'm thinking the beer machine might be more convenient with a can stack.
Thanks, David Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: loman4ec on July 25, 2011, 09:38:33 pm Its 100% the same as your bud machine. They are interchangeable to some degree. There are some mounting differences for the stack. There is a tutorial somewhere on here about how to swap them. There is some light modification needed but not a lot. Otherwise they are the correct ones and you can swap them
Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: Creighton on July 25, 2011, 09:51:52 pm Late to this party, but here is a 7-up off the side of a SV RC machine.

Convenient yes...........but mostly for soda pop and kids. When it comes to enjoying beer, there's nothing like drinking it out of a cold bottle! Nice Budweiser machine you have there David. Title: Re: 7up Deal Post by: David D on July 26, 2011, 08:48:55 pm Thanks Glen, I definitely agree about bottles, but find I don't use the bud machine much since I always have been in cans. Too bad you can't do 1/2 and 1/2 but I'm sure this is not possible and if you did it would be a total hack job.
