Title: ID of 20's era cooler
Post by: BeaYoung on July 17, 2011, 10:32:46 am
Hi Everyone! I am a new member. I am happy to have found such a great forum.

Does anyone know what brand and year this cooler may be from? It is approx. 33" tall, 22" deep and 31" wide. There is no tag of any kind on it. The legs are "curvy" and not straight. The front and back have embossed lettering.

Thanks for your help!

B

You're a genius! Thanks! After looking up the S&S coolers.. I wonder whether it is the Model A because it has the panel insert?

I've not ever seen one. Do you have any idea about value? Popularity?  Thanks!

One interesting note not mentioned in the description:
The legs are stamped out of the case rack area.

Nice cooler, The signs are 1940s so they are not original to the cooler, If your lucky the originals may be underneath.

What awesome feedback! Thank you all so much!   I've been gone for a bit this afternoon  and finally had  a chance to read the comments. Rather than comment on each individually. I'll combine my questions/comments here.

One interesting note not mentioned in the description:
The legs are stamped out of the case rack area.

I am not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean the bottom of the case is made of the same material as the legs?

Nice cooler, The signs are 1940s so they are not original to the cooler, If your lucky the originals may be underneath.
I wonder what the originals would be? In the notes I read about the S&S 700- it said that there were no provisions for advertising. Does that mean the sides were blank? That would explain why someone added some Coke sides to it.

Just looked again and now I can see where they have been cut down...

GREAT eye! Do you mean the sides (with the 1940's panels added) or do you mean that the legs have been cut down?

To me these alterations mean, the cooler  is very much not an original and therefore not worth as much as an unaltered one. I have a friend hoping to sell it to me for $350. Does anyone have any thoughts about value?

They are neat little coolers, i have a couple as well.

To answer the questions on your questions.

The comment about the legs being stamped out of the bottom pan: if you look at the bottom support you sell the same patterns as what the legs are shaped, basically a smart way of reusing material... the sheet that the legs where cut from , was used as a bottom support.

The cooler was made as a generic and can be found in many different brands, the coke signs have been cut down to fit in the slots.

$350 might be a little steep, unless you can verify if there are orginal signs underneath the coke ones, and then could be worthe more if hte original signs are in good shape.

I've paid between 100-250 for them.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate it. I'll probably pass on this one for that $$.
