Title: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: vintage-air on July 06, 2011, 09:29:44 pm This Frisch's Big Boy sold at an auction today close to me. 10' tall and looked almost brand new. I thought I might get it for around $800. Boy was I wrong! $2800 took it home. Pretty cool though!

Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: SIGNGUY on July 07, 2011, 09:21:11 am I think they are being reproduced... funny to think that something that big would have a market for reproduction, but I konw that Cheese from Cheese's Pit Stop (Gas pump site like this) has had several, and have a feeling that is where they are from... he got them made and they do awesome custom painting in house..
pretty cool, but I agree, I'd be in the shed with it! Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: Eric on July 07, 2011, 09:33:49 am This is the style I remember...
Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: davethebirdman on July 07, 2011, 11:04:20 am Help me out here... I always thought that "Big Boy" came from Shooney's or Denny's... Who are Frisch's... ? Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: tkaz on July 07, 2011, 11:19:24 am The Big Boy franchise allowed owners to name their restaurants with their own name, so there were a lot across the country. I grew up with Abdow's Big Boy right up the road.

Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: Kilroy on July 07, 2011, 06:25:50 pm I worked at a Big Boy through High School and college, and no, our store didn't have a statue.
The old style comes up now and then for about 1000-1500. I don't think anyone is repopping them, more like Cheese is grabbing them from closed or closing restaurants. Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: loman4ec on July 07, 2011, 07:12:04 pm God I soooooo miss Frisch's Big Boy. They used to have a lonely one store in Orlando but it closed long before we moved here. Its a duncan Doughnuts now :( Yes there are many names for Bog Boy in Ohio they are all Frisch's but I think in Michigan they are Big Bobs Big Boy or something like that. I would give anything for a Big Boy right now and they have the best cottage cheese on the planet. It makes me want to drive home to Ohio now. I just drove to Atlanta and back so thats half way. I should have Kept going :)
Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: mznb1u on July 07, 2011, 09:30:12 pm In Michigan, it is or at least it used to be Elias Brothers Big Boy (and you did not want to cross the Elias Brothers if you know what I mean or you might end up in the gravy!). I just had lunch there the other day with my boys and a good friend.
The place has not changed a bit! :drinking: Tim :drinking: Title: Re: Went to buy a "big Boy" Post by: halehouse on July 08, 2011, 06:25:29 pm That looks like the Big Boy that is featured in the pic on their webpage.
