Title: Went to buy a "big Boy"
Post by: vintage-air on July 06, 2011, 09:29:44 pm
This Frisch's Big Boy sold at an auction today close to me. 10' tall and looked almost brand new. I thought I might get it for around $800. Boy was I wrong! $2800 took it home. Pretty cool though!

To Cool,  I really would like one but the wife has said  my new shed would be my home if I bought one
and the winter would be cold  out there.

That one look great  8).

Wow.. cool... must be a newer, thinner pc model... the ones that use to be around here looked like they enjoyed
hamburgers more.

I think they are being reproduced... funny to think that something that big would have a market for reproduction, but I konw that Cheese from Cheese's Pit Stop (Gas pump site like this) has had several, and have a feeling that is where they are from... he got them made and they do awesome custom painting in house..

pretty cool, but I agree, I'd be in the shed with it!

The Big Boy franchise allowed owners to name their restaurants with their own name, so there were a lot across the country.  I grew up with Abdow's Big Boy right up the road.

We only had a Top Boy in our town. I believe it was called Big Boy but they had to change the name.

I worked at a Big Boy through High School and college, and no, our store didn't have a statue.
The old style comes up  now and then  for about 1000-1500.
I don't think anyone is repopping them,  more like  Cheese is grabbing them from closed or closing restaurants.

God I soooooo miss Frisch's Big Boy. They used to have a lonely one store in Orlando but it closed long before we moved here. Its a duncan Doughnuts now :(  Yes there are many names for Bog Boy in Ohio they are all Frisch's but I think in Michigan they are Big Bobs Big Boy or something like that. I would give anything for a Big Boy right now and they have the best cottage cheese on the planet. It makes me want to drive home to Ohio now. I just drove to Atlanta and back so thats half way. I should have Kept going :)

In Michigan, it is or at least it used to be Elias Brothers Big Boy (and you did not want to cross the Elias Brothers if you know what I mean or you might end up in the gravy!).  I just had lunch there the other day with my boys and a good friend.

The place has not changed a bit!
