Title: Stoner "Fresh Gum" Mounting Brackets
Post by: Jim on June 25, 2011, 09:34:46 pm
I remember someone having their Stoner 1 Cent "Fresh Gum" machine mounted to an upright Stoner, say 180 or Junior...
Does anyone have original brackets available for sale...? Or, if not, if someone has one or a set, would you allow me to borrow one for replicating purposes...?
Here's a photo at Vintage Vending with what appears to be original brackets...

Jim,

I would take a set if you make some off of Larry's pair

Here's my dilemma:
I received Larry's original Stoner Fresh Gum machine bracket/hardware; however, I'm thinking of reproducing these from aluminum so they will never get misconstrued as "originals" since they are steel... Additionally, they will be powder-coated gloss black for a nice finish.
Would this be the best approach...?  Any and all input is requested...

I don't think it's necessary to make them out of aluminum... they're not collectible like a sign or gas globe
that may need to be dated... If you're having them powder coated... that's enough difference...
Original or replacement... if the part is needed... I would buy repro or good original for the same price... BUT
if the part isn't like the original I wouldn't buy it... I would hold out for a better closer original... I would
think you'd have to use a heavier gauge aluminum to be able to have the strength of the steel... Make them
out of steel like the originals... That's my vote.

What about a little date stamp on the inside, MFG2011 or something like that.

I agree with Eric. As long as there is something obviously different, I think they should be as close to original as possible especially as far as the metal it is fabricated out of.

I have a friend who would take a set if they were steel.
And while we're on this... cap catchers, lids, gaskets, decals, etc. are reproduced in steel (or in materials like originals)
with no markings which I don't see a problem with... You're not reproducing a whole machine to pass off as
an original machine... these are just brackets... I don't think Rod or others have had problems with parts being made.
I don't think you have a huge market anyway... There are just a few that would be glad to get a set for their machines.

c'mon they are only the brackets, have them made out of steel like the originals. it wont detract from the value. the bracket is not what's collectible it's the gum vendor. people don't think twice about replacing the vend handle or kick plate on a machine.  thats my opinion

Steel it is then ! ! !
And no date stamp.
Next week I'll get with a couple of fabricators and go from there...

You crack me up Larry!

Jim - I would be interested in a set. Sounds like one of those "better to have than have not" items. All I have now is a 180 (with gum wheel), but I rather have the Junior with side mount gum. Really would like the Junior with gum wheel, but beggars can't be choosers.

I had two pairs of these brackets, and honestly, the side mounted gum machines make the Jrs BUTT ugly.  My first Stoner came to me with a gum machine attached and it didn't do anything for me except make me cringe.

I sold one gum machine with a set of brackets before and I kept these brackets because I was going to use them to hang a gum machine off of one of my basement support poles.

I have one of the Stoner Fresh Gum machines. I am wondering if mounting brackets were made for them to be installed on the wall rather than onto the side of another Stoner machine. I'd like to display it on the wall if there are brackets for them.

After checking with two fabricators, I ruled one out as I never dealt with them before and their price was high to me. They quoted me $38 for fabricating one large bracket and one small inside bracket...
The other fabricator I have dealt with before and quoted me $28 for the same brackets, lg and small brackets. So, a complete set for upper and lower brackets w/ inside brackets would be $56 + shipping.
Additionally, the two large brackets will be powder coated gloss black and the small interior brackets will be powder coated in silver. I will also include hardware and height measurements for mounting holes provided Curtis gets back with me...

I may be able to get a slightly lower price depending on the quantity ordered...
If this seems acceptable, anyone interested, please Contact Me (http://soda-machines.com/index.php?option=com_contact&task=view&contact_id=1&Itemid=26) with any questions/concerns and let me know who would like to order a set...?

And lastly, Chedki, you can easily mount the Stoner "Fresh Gum" machine to the wall utilizing heavy-duty anchors or better yet, at least locate one wall stud and use this for one set of mounting screws. For the other side, use heavy-duty anchors anyway...

It's been a few days and as it stands, I have 4 interested...
Hopefully, I'll be talking with the fabricator tomorrow and see how things went since he was supposed to make a set... I'm hoping to get a real number of bracket sets needed so I can pin down an actual/final price...
So anyone else considering to purchase a bracket set, let me know because I will not be ordering too many extras!

Update for those who sent payment; I stopped by the fabricator today, but he informed me that the large external brackets will be done next week...
The inside backing plates have been produced and powder coated, so once I receive the outside bracket, they'll be powder coated in gloss black as soon as possible!
