After replacing the starter with and F-2 or F-4 (Assuming the bulb is good), if it still dosen't work you'll need to replace the ballast. Home depot or Lowe's sells a replacement for about $4.50. On that model the ballast is located well above the coin mech unit.

Hello, I have a Vendolator model VF81P-SAP Pepsi machine in excellent visual and great operational condition.I have not been able to locate one like it on any of the sites I have visited. I have pix that I can email, but no one to send them to!: I am hoping that someone will recognize exactly what I'm looking at and be able to point me directly to the thing.
The only operational difficulty I am having is that the 21" fluorescent light in the product door does not work. I replaced the bulb, to no avail, and I am receiving advice to look for the starter... I'll be blasted if I can locate any such thing!
could it be inside the door??? I am also missing the plastic cover for the bulb in the product door (I will go to your parts vendor list to search for a replacement), and am wondering if the logo does or does not light up on this model??? There is no visible wiring for a bulb under the logo, unless it is inside the door...?? Sorry I am so clueless, but it looks pretty stark inside this thing... coin mechanism, nightlight bulb, power connection, and that's about it!!ColeenTaz : )~

It could also be a bad or missing starter,(the little silver can,usally near the lamp, if you see a nickle size hole with nothing in it , then the starters missing) if it's the starter,then its a cheap fix <$3.00 @ the local hardware store near you.

I have a model VF-81 R-SA and there is a switch inside the door on the top. I was feeling around and discovered it....yours may simply be "off".

Coleen, assuming you have the square corner machine with the plastic front Pepsi sign, the florecent system may not exist. I think they could have been ordered with, or without a light, for indoor or outdoor applications. I'll bet you have a power cord though,that comes to the floor of the light casing and stops.
Using that power you should be able to adapt any sort of light fixture that will fit. These machines look twice as nice when lit up.
On the subject of changing light bulbs in used machines.
If the light works at first then flickers to a slow death, then it's the bulb, (or starter). If the light is dead when you bought it then it could be starter or ballast or bulb.
As audiobeer stated the ballast cost's about $4.50, about the same cost as the bulb, and a bad ballast will blow out the new bulb, so it's safer to just buy a new ballast and starter, with the new bulb.
