Nice looking machine and restoration but the color looks wrong?  I know the originals were all white and I hope it is just the lighting.  But why would you go to the trouble of doing a nice restoration like that and not use the correct shade of green for the two tone color scheme?  Checked his website and it looks like the guy does nice work.

I with you Tim, Looks like a turquise, which looks great on a 57 Bel Air, but not on this machine

This was the machine that was on ebay a few weeks ago, it was unrestored and they where going to sell it for 5500 and she said restoration is being completed and winning bidder would get the restored machine,, I bet the winning bidder saw how they DESTROYED it with the wrong color and backed up... she was only looking to get 5500 out of it ,so someone coudl still pick it up right, take it apart, repainted it (looks like the body work was done right) and have a nice one? but why would you do it in Blue? I just don't get it?

I would get it repainted. If he couldn't get the color right what are the odds that the rest of the restoration was done correctly?

Isn't that coin mech for a small door machine?

It is what is called a small door large door mech and is correct.

It makes me wonder why it's O.K. to paint a Stoner or any other of the various machines out there any color you want, but God forbid you change the color of a soda machine :wow:.  Wern't the original 7Ups, of this era, white???  So in that case all the 1950's 7up machines should be restored white?????  Even if the 7up green color looks better??? :tounge:

If you are buying and selling major brand machines, O.K.  I would agree that it would be wise to stick to the products colors.  Wait a second.....does that mean that all Dr, Pepper machines have to now be painted maroon instead of mint green??

I think personally that 90% of collectors would repaint it.

The seller selected turquoise prior to listing on Ebay. Maybe it was leftover paint.

Whatever floats his boat. 8)

I like the color, just not on a 7 Up machine.  Shrug, jist my opinion. that and a buck and a half will get you a liter bottle of Coke

I think his choice of color is going to cost him a lot of potential bids. Bad decision!

At the price's he's  asking, only a hardcore fan would pay that kind of money.  Also, I think they would want it to be what the  current known and accepted standard is for that machine   .......me personally  I like it

rayg hit it right on the head, its not right or wrong to paint a machine a different color,
Quote
the  current known and accepted standard is for that machine
is what most buyers/collectors base it on.

Maybe it was leftover paint.

After looking at his website, that is what I thought.  The guy has some nice auto restoration and it looks like he does good work.  I like the color but to me it does not fit the machine.  Tropical Turquoise looks great on a 50's car but not the 7-Up machine.  Personally, if I was lucky enough to land a 7-Up 81, I would go with all white except the logo.  I like the green and white machines as well but I prefer to keep things original if at all possible.

If I were going to bid, I would have to take into account the cost to strip and repaint. I wouldn't be able to display it like it is.
Does the main door gasket look funny to anyone else? Why doesn't it cover the screw heads?
Also, I can see an evaporator, but no sign of a compressor??

Yes all white isn't the best looking color but, its whats original. To any real collector, originality is everything. It's like slapping on a red paint job on a shelby that wasn't originally red, yea it looks dang good but its not right and makes you wonder its authenticity. If your gonna pay good money for a machine, wouldn't you want it right?

Exactly my thoughts Tom, assuming the body work was done correctly and it's not filled with bondo all over the place, you have to take selling price plus at least another 1500 or so to strip prep and repaint properly.. yes I agree it's the wrong door gasket and hmmm wonder if the selling price includes a cooling unit?  and why not zinc or at least clean up paint or polish or powder coat the main door handle and locking latches.. if you go through soo much trouble restoring the coin mech, in my book you gotta do the rest? but maybe that is just my expectations for a correct restoration..

Sent a question and asked about the paint color:

Dear jenna342005,

Nice looking restoration job! I have a question about the paint color that you used. I have seen the 7-Up machines in all white or 7-Up green and white. The color on your machine appears to be turquoise or is it the lighting in the pictures.

Thanks!

The "small door large door mech"  may be correct but I have seen them mainly on Vendo 81 and 44 models.  I have seen several 7up 81's and have owned a few, (I only have one right now) but they all  had the regular large coin mech.

"Correct" may not be the right word choice. It works without modification to the mech or machine though. I believe some of the SD/LD mechs may have replaced the conventional LD mechs in the 60's because of their ability to be set for 15¢ or 20¢ vend.

I have actually seen more sm/ld mechs on VMC's than anything else. and most of the VMC transitional machines that were made just a year later were the conversion mechs.

Again, most of these SD/LD mechs can easily be set for 15¢ or 20¢ vend. The common LD mechs have a price set limit of 12¢.

That makes a lot of sense. I had wondered if they maybe had a lot of old small door mechs left over or something. The price reason makes more sense.

4.5 hours to go - - the bid is at $5,000 and the reserve is not met.  Three bidders since it got above $2,500. Will be interesting to see where the reserve is!

it still has a buy it not for 5995... so I'm gussing reserve is 5500 or so I think that is the buy it now she had on it last time it was listed, when it was being restored..
still not a bad deal for someone looking for one.. just repaint it and maybe redo some of the plating that was missed and you have a nice original 7up 81.

No - that is not him....Carl's feedback is in the 500's. I think his abbreviation is w**s.

Well reserve was not met,, wonder if the high bidder can talk her out of it for 5,000? still not a bad deal since most of it is done.. maybe another 1500-1800 into some finishing touches and you'll have nicely restored VMC 7up 81

:Oo: Turquoise  not on Vendo :Oo: , on a 57 chevy  Bel Air yes.  And I understand $5000 may be a deal but new paint is a must.
