Title: 56 Transitional? Post by: FRESNO MAN on March 13, 2011, 05:03:21 pm Saw this 56 Transitional on Craigslist in my area. What do you think on collectability and price?

Post by: johnieG on March 13, 2011, 06:11:31 pm They are rather collectible being that they are cross over models, the manual vend models are more desirable than the electric vends, but this machine is an embossed 7up ( lower front door) & appears to be complete,so that's a plus, but I can see (even with the fuzzy pictures provided) belt-line rust just above & along the bottom of the side ventilation louvers,so that's a big concern, but the surface rusting on the front door is actually very typical of this model ( especially when it sports white paint, such as 7up, Faygo, etc.) seems that the didn't have a good primer for white, so I'd say the $500 asking price is a bit out of bounds, it's basically a rather rough/rusty machine, I wouldn't go above $275/300 personally. (If it were a manual vend, maybe $400)

Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: FRESNO MAN on March 13, 2011, 06:32:53 pm Thanks johnieG, the guy's "easy to restore" comment was kinda funny! At about half that price, do think there's a market for parting it out?

Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: Pat Pixley on March 15, 2011, 03:42:15 pm I would have killed for that if it was closer to me :darn:
Parts yes (still wish it was close to me :darn:) Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: Kilroy on March 15, 2011, 04:42:49 pm A transitional embossed 7Up, I'd try to save it, but then again I tried to save my 8 tracks and beta max player.
Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: johnieG on March 15, 2011, 05:41:57 pm I'd transplant the embossed front door & internal parts that are in decent shape onto a better main chassis of a generic VMC 56 & that will turn it into a "transitional"....the external coindoor/main door is the only unique part on these models (as compared to later model VMC 56's)
Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: loman4ec on March 15, 2011, 09:02:36 pm I was just going to say what Johnnie did. Another difference on a regular V56 cabinet is there are no louvers on the side but I think that is a good thing. They are so hard to get perfect when restoring. I think its better to just do away with them. I have put the door of a transitional on a regular V56 body twice and it worked great. No troubles.
Title: Re: 56 Transitional? Post by: FRESNO MAN on March 15, 2011, 09:06:57 pm I'm going to go out Friday and check it out, offer a low price ($150) and see where it goes.
