Title: Lots of stuff on ebay. I am moving to Flroida and trying to sell all that I can
Post by: loman4ec on December 19, 2010, 02:50:19 am
Well I am moving on december 27th and I am moving my family and all of our stuff around January 29th. I am trying to thin out all of my stuff especially all of the parts I have. I think we will be moving into an apartment for a year or so until I can buy a house so I will not be doing much with soda machines for a while so I am selling all of the parts I have. I never thought moving on my own could be this expensive. Heck the Uhaul truck alone is $1700 before fuel and a 27' box truck cant be cheap to fuel up to go 1000 miles. I just thought I would share and give a little plug for my auctions. The link is http://shop.ebay.com/loman4ec/m.html. The only big stuff is really the 34" bottle thermometer. It is in like now condition. The link is

If it was me i would look at using Penske. They are alot cheaper and just charge you the rental vs miles and rental like Uhaul. Most of these trucks get better gas mileage than what you think. You should only have to stop twice to fill it up. We moved my sister and brother in law to Tampa and it was the same size truck and we filled it up twice. The only bad thing is they have a speed control.

Good Luck

A buddy of mine used PODS for his move. They dropped off a large "pod" in his driveway, he packed it himself and they dropped it off in the driveway of his new home. I don't remember what he said it cost him, but I do remember that he said it was much cheaper and easier than the u-haul route would have been. He was able to pack his whole home over the course of a month, rather than rushing to do it all over the week or so the rental truck would have been available to him. Plus, he had the advantage of being able to unpack the "pod" at his leisure.

Thats a great option Pat.... My partner at work knocked down a house and used 2 units to load his items into and they are currently storing it for him. When his house is completed, they will re-deliver them to the house for him.. He said it was much more economical than he expected..

I used a POD in the backyard when we added onto our house and a good friend used one after they sold their house. When they found another house to buy, the company dropped the POD off and they unloaded it. It is very reasonable, but if the POD is being moved around you better have it packed well.

I agree with Matt,  I have also used Pensie in the past.  They were a lot cheaper and they had newer trucks which helped save on the gas. Good luck on your move Josh

Thank for the idea. For closer moves they said they are economical but for this long move the 8X16 POD container is $2,600 and the 27" uhaul is $1,700. I just checked Penski and they are th ebest by far I just reserved a 26" box truck for $850 for 5 days. Uhaul only gave 3 days. Thanks guys what a great deal!

I used Penske for a 1200 mile one way trip last summer.  Big 26-28 foot truck.  Diesel, so the mileage was better.  I took advantage of the AAA discount and an additional discount for reserving on-line.  I believe it was a little over $500 and 5 days with no mileage fee.  Unfortunately we had an airconditioning malfunction, so they paid for our room and meals for the night (which is where we were going to layover anyway) and credited back 40% of our truck charge at turn in.  Then about a month later, I got a letter from Penske offering a sizeable discount on our next rental.  Good company.

Our is an 800 mile trip and I booked online with the 27' truck with AAA discount and it was a little over $850 plus tax. Thats not too bad.

That is a great price. Used PODS when we moved to Spokane. Not recommended for moving. Hard to pack and everything was bounced to death by the time they got here.

Being retired military i have used them all. But I will ONLY use Penske now. They have bigger, cleaner, and newer trucks and the price is better. I don't feel like the truck is going to breakdown halfway there.
