Title: I found a Victor "3 Door" cooler
Post by: vintage-air on November 24, 2010, 04:42:21 pm
Going to look at a Victor cooler on Friday and wanted to know what you guys think. He's asking $600 for it and looks to be pretty nice from the picture he sent me. He say's it's in a small town bar and still sits in its original location over 50 years behind the counter. He said he doesn't know if it runs since it hasn't been used in a while and might be tough to get out. Here is a picture of what he sent. Good deal or not at that price?

If complete, seems like a good deal. I would try to get him down though, in this economy!! Hope you land it!

That looks like the embossed model and both cap catchers are there and the Victor badge is there.  The doors don't look all dinged up.  Sounds like a decent price to me if the tub is solid.  Brian can pick it up and deliver it for you!   Just kidding!  I still owe him for the transport job on my 4-door!  I agree with brian--go with $400 in hand and see how you do.

price should be negotiable, the economy is weak on those huge coolers

I might try to build a "Hot Dogger" out of this one. I have been doing my research on the Victor Kooler grill and I read somewhere there is only 5 know to exist. I have a buch of stainless sheet material and a fabricator just down the road from me. Or I just might keep it original if it is really clean. Thanks for the input guys!

Well, I bought it! After having to dismantle the bar around the cooler we finally got it out from it's original location of over 50 years. This thing is very, very straight on all sides but it does have about 20 lbs of nicotine covering the entire cooler. Can't wait to get it cleaned up and plugged in. Stay tuned! here are some pictures i took today!

Speaking from experience with Jukeboxes, the nicotine may have kept the paint factory fresh.

Great find. Windex multi-surface seems to cut nicotine the best.

Did you negotiate a lower price for removal fees...?

Sure did Jim. He knocked $100 off but I had to take it the same day. I said... Alright, If I must! :) Took us about 45 minutes to take the bar apart and load it on a trailer. This thing was HEAVY... and I couldn't of done it myself, that's for sure.

Nice "clean" 3-Door you got there.  Good price too!

Is it clean on the inside?

I sure did. Thanks. I'll be on the lookout for one. I saw one sell on an auction site last year that sold for $550. It looked really nice. If you find one let me know.

I'll be stripping all the smoked up patina and going though it today and I'm anxious to see how it looks after wards. I'll post a picture after the detailing process is finished.
