Title: GameRoom Magazine Post by: dr galaga on November 18, 2010, 07:07:56 pm I'm not sure how many people here subscribe to GameRoom Magazine, but saw some bad news on their website today - they are ceasing publication.
This is what their it says "GameRoom Magazine is Ceasing Publication I am saddened to have to let you know that, due to the deteriorating economic climate for print media, it is impossible for us to continue publishing GameRoom Magazine. If you are a subscriber, you will be receiving a postcard in the next few days with a download code for a free copy of the GameRoom 20th Anniversary Collection (a $99 value!). The collection contains twenty years of GameRoom back issues in digital PDF format, perfect for reading on your computer or devices like the iPad and other e-Readers." site (http://www.gameroommag.com/) This stinks. I was a subscriber since issue #1. Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: Larry on November 18, 2010, 07:15:21 pm I have a lot of issues, mainly the black and white ones. It was a cool mag.
Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: Crazzy Canuck on November 18, 2010, 07:15:42 pm You're right Brent. It does suck! But.......economics makes people sit back and kinda ponder. I've seen a lot of people come and go and I was one of them myself. Fortunately I'm back and my economy is not that great either but I'm able to with my work keep on striving and to tell ya the truth, striving harder than I did 10 or 15 years ago.

Originally that is what they were saying!Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: bubba on November 18, 2010, 08:40:05 pm I saw that today too.. I've only been getting for about 3 years, but I've always looked forward to every issue. I am looking forward to the passcode to download the collection though to see what I missed over the years..
Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: Creighton on November 18, 2010, 09:11:14 pm Sadly will be seeing more of this. 15 car related mags have shut down in the past 2 months. Some pubs are strong enough to offer content on the web but most are not and they are history.
Creighton Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: Pat Pixley on November 18, 2010, 09:38:56 pm It is sad, quote from Ghost Busters (1984) Janine Melnitz: You're very handy, I can tell. I bet you like to read a lot, too.
Dr. Egon Spengler: Print is dead. Janine Melnitz: Oh, that's very fascinating to me. I read a lot myself. And a Magazine on the rope's Playboy Losing Its Pants, Intends To Save Print Business By Increasing Prices. And Rod & custom magazine is gone Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: collecture on November 18, 2010, 09:57:45 pm Some pubs are strong enough to offer content on the web but most are not and they are history. It is a sad state for sure, but you have to keep up with the times. With iPads, Kindles and the like - more and more people are going green! I wonder why they couldn't just make it an electronic subscription and eliminate the hardcopy issue. An in-store download from Barnes & Noble or something - lots of options, but costs are what they are. I will probably get the download - would be cool! Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: Creighton on November 18, 2010, 10:05:20 pm Electronic content is all fine and well and is the future.
I still like sitting at the table having a meal and reading over the paper or a mag. Old timer, Creighton Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: dr galaga on November 18, 2010, 10:20:31 pm I still like sitting at the table having a meal and reading over the paper or a mag. ...or sitting somewhere else... Old timer, Creighton I fully agree....my 50 year old eyes can read it better too; however, the future is what it is and a business (or publication) must acclimate. Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: mznb1u on November 19, 2010, 06:10:09 am Just finished reading the daily newspaper myself and I have to count myself as an "oldtimer". I much prefer holding the paper and reading each page rather than looking at the computer screen. This new generation is never going to understand that.

Even though everyone else gets all there money auto-deposited at midnight and I normally have to wait a day for it to clear so all of its in there. I just like getting my bone in hand after 40hrs of tricks.
Title: Re: GameRoom Magazine Post by: loman4ec on November 19, 2010, 08:14:35 pm Im only 29 and I prefer to read in print. I also prefer a book over an e-reader or newsprint over online news. Reading on paper is easier to see. Its not an old eye problem.
