Title: Tube radios. Leave power on? Post by: Creighton on October 22, 2010, 04:17:11 pm Ham buddy thinks should always maintain power to tube devices. His reasoning is power on/off causes more stress on the tubes, caps etc. Thoughts?
Thanks!! Creighton Title: Re: Tube radios. Leave power on? Post by: GreginNM on October 22, 2010, 05:40:34 pm Never heard that, and don't think I would leave power on any of my old radios if I wasn't using them. I've always been told to unplug them when not in use. Unless the radio has been gone through thoroughly, you don't want power running around in something that is worn out and cause a fire. Transformers have been known to cook for no apparent reason and start a fire...saw it happen in an antique shop in the little town I lived in in North Carolina. They didn't listen to advice about not leaving it plugged in and it burned at night.
