Title: General Shipping Advice
Post by: mznb1u on September 20, 2010, 08:09:35 am
I am looking at buying some soda fountain stools from a CL seller that will have to be shipped.  The seats have backs and the posts come off of the stools.  I am thinking that the posts and other hardware can be shipped in one box and perhaps two other boxes for the chairs.  My guess is that the 3 boxes would weigh roughly 50lbs each.

Can anyone suggest a safe and economical way to get these shipped?  I know UPS can handle it but they are not always the least expensive.

Thanks!

I've used Greyhound. You just have to pick up the package at the nearest terminal.

I sent a guy in Georgia a Cav-51 bottle belt with rollers through Greyhound. Packages take a backseat to passengers luggage and belongings, which have priority over packages. As a result, packages can and will get bumped if there is not enough room on a bus. Then the package sits until there is room on a bus. There is a weight limit also - check the site!

I have found FedEx a lot more reasonable than UPS or USPS. Where are the chairs? Not to offer anyone's services, but ChicagoLand is coming up in a month or so. Possibly members could transport to someone near you. Just an idea.

I have started using the post office over UPS and fedEx. Most of what I ship are small parts so the flat rate boxes are great! I have however noticed that their prices seem to be better than UPS and Fedex.

They do. I've only used them a couple of times and not recently. One guy sent me a neon sign from WA to VA using them. That was what he preferred.
