Title: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Post by: oldcoke on September 16, 2010, 11:54:14 am I have a C-51 that has the five cent only coin mechanism and did not know you can not use the new nickels. I have a new nickel I put into the mechanism and it is stuck in there somewhere. The old coins work just fine, so how do I get the new nickel out? As you know, there is no button you push to get the coin back but I can not see the coin. I do not want to stick something into the slot affraid of hurting it.
Also, I just put the machine back together and the handle works fine when you put the old nickel in but the handle will not turn counter-clockwise so I can close the door. Something is stoping it from turning counter-clockwise. It worked just fine when I took out of machine and put in a plastic bag. Never did take it apart. But for some reason will not go counter-clockwise. thanks.... Title: Re: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Post by: collecture on September 16, 2010, 12:24:48 pm Some thing is not right - new nickels or old nickels should both work. I've never encountered a coin that does not work when the mechanism is working like it should.
Did the coin fall all the way into the coin block on the shaft? Or is it stuck in the rejector? As far as the handle, something is not right there either. The clutch pawl inside the handle is a safety measure incorporated within the handle and should work regardless of where the handle is in the vending cycle. Keep in mind that everything on the mechine must be adjusted correctly. Everything is connected together and any slight binding in one area trickles down and can affect another part several links away. Pictures help!! Have to leave for a while but will take a few pictures when I get back. Not sure where the nickel is. Thanks

1. Where is the nickel getting stuck? Try this: 1. Screw a 6-32 x 3/8" screw in the right side to lift the nickel dog up (put it on free vend in other words). There is already a screw in the dime dog hole. Both screw holes are located in the oval area on the right side of the painted mech cover plate. 2. Now open the main door and crank it over. Does the coin mech crank over and return without issue? If so, you have eliminated a coin mech issue (other than the rejector). If so, now close the main door and crank it over again. Does the machine vend fine as a free vend? If not, your issue is down the line somewhere (bottle belt gears, etc.). If all of the above is OK, sounds like you might just need to clean the rejector and/or adjust it. Title: Re: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Tom, I can not close the door. The handel is at 2 o'clock and when I did put the first nickel in it worked just fine and I heard the belt move one notch. But the handel will only to back up to 2 o'clock and can not get it any father so I can close the door. Jim told me since I had the handel chromed without taking it apart (in which I did not know you could take it apart) is the problem. But to save me, I can not figure out how taking it apart will make it work. wht the heck is that spring for anyway. Did not know there was "stuff" inside the handel. :glare: Title: Re: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Post by: collecture on September 16, 2010, 09:12:46 pm I do not see the unattached spring you are referring to. Is it on the coin mechanism?
I was referring to only closing the main door. To close the coin door, it sounds like you will need to remove the crank handle fully by removing the pin connecting it to the shaft. You then will need to disassembly the handle (look in the Tips and Tutorials section for Crank Handle Reassembly), clean and lubricate the Clutch Pawl, Clutch Spring, etc. that are inside the crank handle. Then and only then will you be able to pull the handle counterclockwise and close your coin door. Sorry - you not the only one who has chromed the whole handle before. Title: Re: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Post by: oldcoke on September 17, 2010, 08:25:49 am Thanks Tom, the spring I was talking about is the one in the handle. I could not figure out what the purpose of that spring was. Yes, Jim got me on the help page showing taking the handle apart. But he also said it is not easy putting back together. If he has trouble putting it back together I know I am in trouble. :hopefull: I will just have to hold my tongue just right and I might be OK . Thanks again. John (oldcoke)
Title: Re: How do you get a new nickel out of the 5 cent coin mechanism? Post by: oldcoke on September 17, 2010, 02:54:15 pm OK, taking the chrome handle apart was the hardest part but once got it apart and I cleaned everthing up it went right back together and I put white greese on it and it works great now. I found out you never want to send a handle off without taking the insides out. But at the time, I did not know it had any insides. (rooky) Oh well. Thanks for all the help. Could not have done it with out you guys.
