Look what this dreamer is hoping to get out of their soda machine just because they heard it was worth that much on Pawn Stars.  :glare:

:wow:  I'm starting to see that comment a lot on Craigslist and ebay listings lately.  I was wondering when the brainless twits would start coming out of the woodwork with their stuff trying to cash in on what they hear from a couple of idiots on TV.  "I heard/saw it on TV, so it must be true!"   :wow:

I didn't think Pawn Stars gave individual appraisals!

I'm starting to see that comment a lot on Craigslist and ebay listings lately.

Yep - it is on at least 1 out of every 10 listings

My response  for mnow on is
"that's right. You  did. But Pawn Stars only offered  the  seller $200.
optional. "and he took it"

sorry, I try to be polite, and fair, but if  your investigation of the value of the thing(s) you're selling consists of eating Cheetos and watching Pawn Stars/American Pickers/ Antique Roadshow and seem smug in their expert wisdom, then good luck, and call me when  you are tired of people calling and laughing.

I'd like to start seeing people showing in the Pawn Shop with these machines and asking for the outrageous prices that the Pawn Stars/Pickers throw out.  :wow:

What would be really funny would be to get a hold of a Rick's Restoration and take it in there and see what they tell you it is worth and what they offer you.  Somehow, I don't think it would even be close to the foolish numbers they throw out when they are stroking Rick at his shop. :tounge:  8)

Of course, that footage will end up on the cutting room floor. :glare:

I used to like the History Channel. They used to have some pretty worthwhile shows. Now it has basically turned into another modern reality TV channel.

The only thing I like watching on the history channel anymore is Modern Marvels.

I'm curious about something.....

Do guys think that sellers at the Chicagoland Coin-op Show will be citing "Pawn Stars" as a valid pricing indicator?

Oh, wait a second, I think an answer is coming to me.........NO!

Seriously, I sincerely hope not. But, if I do find anybody that does, I will take a picture of them and post it here so that they can be preserved as "one of them"!

You guys are going to get a kick out of this!

I couldn't control my fingers yesterday and I sent a message to the seller of this machine to politely let him know that the Pawn Stars are not a very accurate or valid source for basing his auction starting price on. I also let him know that all I was trying to do was offer him some friendly advice so that he wouldn't be wasting time on his listing.

He sent me a message back, here's a cut and paste directly from "My Messages":

It wasnt really Pawn Stars where I got my price. It was Rick, the resto guy. He said between 75 and 10.

BOOYAH!!! I saw that and thought, is this guy serious?! :tounge:

He should have let Rick have it for a deal at $5,000! That way Rick could have taken it to the Pawn Shop and made a few bucks by selling it for $7,500 to them and there would have still been enough margin for the Pawn Shop to make a few bucks when they sold it for $10,000.  Everyone would have been happy! 8)

:darn: :darn: :darn: Seriously, doesn't anybody check closed auctions on E-Bay to see what things are really selling for in the current market!!!  It really is not that hard!

:happydrinkers: Here's to hoping that the Vegas pricing stays in Vegas and that things in Chicago are reasonably normal! :happydrinkers:

try telling him your a picker and can't pay retail, have to lower the price(leave some meat on the bone as they say on american pickers)so you can make a little something on the resale.   lol

I contacted the seller a couple of days ago about this machine. Basically saying that Pawn Stars didn't know what they were talking about in saying it's worth $7,500 to $10,000. Well, this seller claimed he turned down a $5000 offer on it ! Yeah, right.

If it's worth the quoted price, then maybe he ought to drive it over to "Pawn-scams" & see if they'll give him his asking price...  :tounge:

Just sell him one for three thousand and he can resell it for six thousand.

Boy, I REALLY can't wait until the clown (Rick) gets his OWN show on History Channel...Imagine how much more that will add to these idiots and their ridiculous prices!!  So much for any reasonable (forget good) deals to be left out there!!   :glare:

Like was said, doesn't anyone research closed ebay prices??  There are SEVERAL of those listed each week for $1000 - $2000 in same or better condition that go with no bids week after week.  What makes his worth 6 times as much?   :tounge:

For any ladies out there, I looked at Rick's Restorations Facebook page and it says he is "In a Relationship".  Sorry.

Well, I too gave it the old college try and attempted to talk some sense into this seller!

Here is what I said and I tried to let him down easy):

Dear tsriverman,
I collect Coke and I wanted to pass along information might help your post. Your machine is a Vendolator Model 3D-33. It holds 33 8 oz. Cokes and has a pre-cooling area that holds 27 more. That machine was produced in the mid 50's and is a 3 on a rarity scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being most rare. It would help to include pictures of the machine from all four sides as well as pictures of the coin mechanism, vending mechanism and the compressor area. I am not trying to be a smart aleck; but, the biggest challenge that you will have in trying to sell this item is that is not worth $6,000. A mint condition 3D-33 would sell for $2,000 on it's very best day. If someone told you it was worth $7.500 you should have sold it to them for $5,000. There are 2 TV shows--Pawn Stars and American Pickers--that are throwing out ridiculous numbers on what things are worth. These numbers have no basis in reality if you do the research. In any event, I wish you good luck with the sale!

And here is what he responded with:

Dear mznb1u,
Thanks for the info, Tim.I got the price i had from Rick, the resto guy on Pawn Stars. He restored one like it except his had no insides and was beat all to hell.He did a jam up resto and they valued it at 3,500$.Again, thanks for the info
- tsriverman

Oh well, as somebody said the other day, everyone has the right to be stupid but some people abuse the privilege! :darn: :darn: :darn:

But then again, maybe he is waiting for that guy that P.T. Barnum was talking about--you know the sucker born every minute!

Maybe you should respond with a few links to some eBay 33-3D's and tell them they could make a bunch of money if they buy them up.

If you look at it from the other side of the coin.. Anyone with old banged up machines can probably start selling them for mega bucks.. I wish I still had that 83.. Who knows.. maybe they'll do a V63 or something and say its worth $3K... I'll be rich..
