Title: New guy could use some info, picked up a Cavalier cooler.
Post by: Clifford on September 06, 2010, 01:26:59 pm
I picked up this cooler and was hoping someone could help identify the Model Cavalier that it is, everything I've seen so far seems slightly different in some way. The liner inside the cooler has CC-12-47, would this be the production date? I have the serial number but I've read those are worthless for Cavalier. I'm new to this and any info would be much appreciated.

Hi Cliff,
Welcome!
Looks slightly bigger than the CI-3 and slightly smaller than the CI-6 (unless the dimensions of your picture are distorted). What are the dimensions of the cooler? Any signs of a compressor assembly? ...vending (bottle rack)? Do you have a top and, if so, what does it look like?
A drain spout should be in the large hole below the 4 studs and a cap catcher would hang on the 4 studs. Looks more like the Vendo 39 Standard or the Vendo 59 Standard (as pictured in Jeff Walter's 3rd edition of Classic Soda Machines).

Cavalier and Westinghouse coolers are quite similar and there are occasionally variations (like yours maybe) that are not listed in books or on SMC here. Doesn't make yours rare or more valuable as it is still a water cooled chest cooler, which does not hold a lot of value with colllectors. But the bottom line is if you like - that's all that matters!!
