Title: Breyer"s Ice Cream Sign
Post by: collecture on September 02, 2010, 10:05:47 pm
I went to look at a machine today. I didn't get the machine, but I did pick up this 27"x17" light-up Breyer's sign for $50.

In nice shape except for a broken edge down below/right of ICE. Picture is as found - haven't done anything to it except see if it lights up - which it does.

Thanks! Got to find a place for it now.
Here is a pic of it lit up. I washed the sign and properly assembled it is all (the sign was not in it's groove).

I think so, but it still has to meet final decorative approval. I want to get it all fixed up before revealing it - right now it is in my shop.

It has two sheet metal screws at the top that hold the aluminum band frame. Over time accessing the insides has bowed the frame out at the top a little. Any ideas for getting it bent down slightly to retain the sign better? Or should I just not worry about it?

Hey Tom,
Cool sign. You could use a series of C-clamps to reform.

How so Creighton?
Here is a pic of the band frame and connection on top. A plate is riveted to one end and the screws hold the other side flush (or should be flush). The clamps would dent the aluminum wouldn't it?
I am afraid that if I start to try and gently (but firmly) press it down to bow it back outwards that it will suddenly give and I'll have a nasty bend in it.

Tom,
With the pic I now see the problem. Clamps won't work. Unless you can find a really good trim restorer I'd leave it alone.
