I am kind of surprised that this "professionally" restored machine is listed as a "brand new" machine and then he goes on to describe all of the work that went into the restoration?!?!?!  :glare:  Not to mention that if his intention was to restore the machine "as new" that he would have had the liner and shelves re-galvanized instead of using hammer-tone.  No knock on hammer-tone finish as it is a great product but that is not how the machine was shipped new.  And one more thing, I have to admit that I am not that familiar with the Cav 72--but is the coin mech correct "as new" on this restoration?

The Coinco mechanism that is pictured in the machine will work, but it's not original to the machine.

That machine came from the factory with a Natinal Rejectors Coin Mechanism (NRI). One of the all-metal jobs. There are a few different NRI model numbers that might have come stock with the 72.

"As new", "Restored" and every other descritive term used in this hobby (business for some) is pretty subjective. What I believe to be a "full restoration" might not line up with what 10 other members here think. But, don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the listing or it's claims. I think that if you are going to call a machine a "fully restored" machine, it should be as close a humanly possible to bone stock like it came out of the factory. It can be done, just might cost a little more.

Maybe if restorers sacrificed the $2000 paint job, and painted the machine like they were originally painted back in the day and re-invested that money in hot dip galvanized plating......Just thinking out loud  :biggrin:

The "As Seen On TV" seems a bit cocky and self-absorbed to me.

I think he is using that "as seen on TV" because I heard he is getting his own show thanks to his exposure on Pawn Stars.

Every time I have spoken to him on the phone about the Victor cooler he says he has been so busy filming so I am guessing he has his own show. If that happens the days of getting great deals on machine are over and the claim I see them sell on ebay for $XXXX will change to I see them sell on TV for $XXXX

I wonder if that C-72 IS the infamous V-39 turned C-72? Other than that, why is it "As Seen On TV"?

Welp, here it is. An article from the Las Vegas Sun Newspaper dated today and the article was actually written in late June.

It was not a matter of if, but whom.
And the "whom" is a man who lords over gleaming, vintage Coke machines.
We're speaking of the first spin-off from "Pawn Stars," the four-headed monster of a reality show that's created a torrent of publicity for the once nondescript pawn shop on Las Vegas Boulevard, just a skateboard sashay north of Charleston Boulevard.

Whoa. Some sentence there.

Anyway, the show is filled with interesting "expert" guest-stars, seasoned pros who help the Harrison boys and the ever-affable Chumlee price and restore the odd array of items toted through the store's front doors. Among those experts:
• Sean Rich of Tortuga Trading Inc. a master antique gunsmith.
• Dana Linett, president of Early American History Auctions Inc., an expert in early American history.
• Wally Korhone, owner of Rusty Nuts Rods and Custom, adept at vehicle and motorcycle customization.

But the man who has leapt from cameos to a full-fledged series of his own is Rick Dale of Rick's Restorations Inc. No weather-beaten gas pump or moribund jukebox is too battered to be restored by Dale, who says he has been "restoring memories for over 28 years!"

At least, his website says that. The last time I talked to him he was still eagerly awaiting a signed contract from History Channel, which also is home to "Pawn Stars."

That contract was signed Friday, and a crew from Leftfield Productions (the company that also produces "Pawn Stars") is in town for three weeks of filming. The title of the show is not finalized, though employing the word "Restoration," or a variation thereof, would seem a natural. So would the name, "Rick."

The show's schedule or launch date has not been announced, either, but one episode will feature Monte Carlo illusionist Lance Burton, who suffered a uniquely Las Vegas home-décor dilemma.

The swirling plot:
Burton's home sits on a high bluff near BLM land south of Henderson. The house was hit particularly hard by April's wind storms, which reached gusts of 60 mph. Leading up the driveway into the entrance are a pair of tall, old-English style lamps from the Monte Carlo. Burton inherited these effects during the hotel's build-out of Diablo's Cantina, which made those lamps disposable.

But one night, as he returned home from a show at Monte Carlo, Burton noticed something strange at his home — darkness.

"I looked up the driveway and the lamps had been blown over," Burton said during a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. "They were shattered. The next morning I was trying to figure out what to do and (Burton's publicist) Wayne Bernath told me about this guy on 'Pawn Stars' who restores things. I got a hold of him and he said, 'Yeah, I can do this.'"

But not right away — Burton has been holding the pieces until an episode of "Generic Vegas Restoration Reality Show" can be built around the rebuilding.

"He'll have to weld all these cast aluminum parts together, "Burton said. "But if he can fix this, I will be impressed."

Weld?? Aluminum?

Rick is getting a show !!!   I feel sick to my stomach   :Oo:  burp Ooooooooooo!

I think the "Nate" guy is a real person...he contacted me about a machine and he had a local phone # (Salem, Oregon). He is also the person that had the Vendo 81 "C" for sale awhile back...he has Rick restore things for him and then he sells them using Ebay, Craigslist and Rick's website.  Also, I can't believe they are making a show around Rick...he seems like a nice guy, but I feel there is a handful of people on this website who are at least as knowledgeable and would be great for the show.

          Even though Rick is arrogant off screen, the idea of a dedicated show may not be a bad idea.
Most people don't realize how good their old machine may look when restored and they can't ALL send theirs to Las Vegas.
Rick will probably be the highest priced restorer soon, so that leaves a lot of newly created buisness for anyone who is
familliar with breaking down these machines and re-assembling.

         Seller: "I've seen these machines go for $6000.00 restored".
         Reply: "OK, call me when you get it restored and we'll talk."  :biggrin:

Glen , I know it sound good and it looks good , BUT  Rick! the man that said this is your machine ( vendo 39 to a Cav 72 )  with a straight face  .They could have choose someone much better like you Glen or Rod or Steve Jebb or Terry or Joe from Be bop Joe's OR even Mike from American Chopper( HA HA HA ) anybody else than Rick .

  But if this helps the hobby  then so let it be,  but I still don't feel good :Oo:

Shows like that will help us find stuff that was just sitting around, but also bring out the idiots who think their stuff is worth a fortune.

I was on Rick's email list because I asked a question about an Ebay auction years ago.  I emailed him after the Vendo 39 incident and told him how disappointed I was with the results.

Here is his response :
Hi, thanks, The network needed to shoot asap and made that decision on there own. We finished the 39 too late for them to shoot. Here is what we did to that machine.

I don't know Rick,  I know some others here do. 

One thing I do know though.  Reality shoes are not REAL!!  There is so much BS behind the scenes it is not funny.  A friend of mine worked at a local radio station.  90% of the contests they had were rigged in some way.  Friends of DJ's and other staff were always the winners.  The only reality is that it boils down to this "it is not what you know that counts.  It is who you know"
