Title: amperage draw
Post by: bubba on August 08, 2010, 04:38:34 pm
What is the amperage draw across the theromstat contacts? Does the thermostat take the full compressor load, or is that what the start run capacitor is for? I want to hook up an external temp control to keep my homebreq fermenting at a cooler temp. The warmest I can get the stock thermostat is 52 deg.. I want to run it at 68 deg.. I have a digital temp control, but the contacts are rated at 3amps.. I can relay it if I have to, but was trying to avoid it.. I'm playing with my Cav USS-64

You can get a external commercial thermostat for your machine that is rated around 20 amps. and has a range of -30 F to 100 F.

I don't want to buy anything. I have a commercial temp controller I use on my machinery at work with a nice long thermocouple that I will stick into my carboy . I just want to unplug the thermostat wires and connect them to the output relay of the temp controller. I may have to put an external relay in it to handle the load.

That should work fine.
