What's the old saying....."read and weep".  I'm jealous, but obviously happy for you sodaman!  That auction kind of sounds like those unreal morel spots you run across only a couple times in your life.

Sounds like a surreal time! Lots of fun I'm sure!
Looking for a nice unbroken dial selector for a Westinghouse Select-O-Matic WB-60 (same as 78 & 102) and always interested in LD mech parts.
If you have anything like that in the parts boxes and feel like parting with them, I'd be interested.
Tom

CONGRATS on some fantastic scores!!  I'm completely jealous over the Ideal 35 and 55 RCs!

Any chance there was a mech cover for an Ideal 35?

Greg

I was wondering the same thing...I dealt with Randy Byal several times. What happened to them? Last time I tried to call...nothing. I did not see Randy listed on the Tipton Pork Festival website either and he was involved with it too. As I recall, the Byals did a lot with Jabobs machines (Indiana Co.).

Yes Randy past away. He will be missed. I met up with his brother about 8 months ago and bought a lot of machines and parts from him. He called and asked if I was coming to the auction last Sat. but it was my daughters 8th birthday. So I didn't make it to the sale. Most of what was left was pretty rough. He still has a lot of the nicer stuff left at his house. Sounds like there was some real bargins at the sale.

There was a mech cover for a Ideal 35, it sold for $75 by itself.........One Mills cup machine incomplete, $50  There was a restored standard cooler that was nice that went for $250.  I missed a nice original one for $35, the auctioneer was going so fast it was hard to keep up.

OH! I would have loved the Mills cup machine!!!! Dang, wish I had known about the auction! Randy was a great guy. When to their location a few times. In fact, got the old 7up Quikold off him that Eric loves! They had a ton of machines in an old fire truck plant. This place was falling in, but very cool. Great guy! His brother was kinda quiet, but Randy was awesome. A very nice guy! Had some RC 81's, I wonder what happened to them?? Rod, do you know?

I was just kidding about buying the RC 81's.   Just wanted to get everyones heart rate up for a minute or two. I don't think he has the RC machines anymore. Anyway I didn't see them and he didn't say anything about them.

I have been quite GREEN with envy for the past couple of hours!

I know what really happened.  You got the two RC's and are having them converted to Orange Crush! 8)

Oh well, would have been a great score!  Someday . . . . .

Thanks!

I was at this auction as well. I managed to buy two machines. A Selictivend Model 1-A for $25.00 and a gutless Vendorlator VF-81M for $15.00. I don't know if either work yet because they're still in Tipton. My buddy lives there and actually worked at the auction site when it was FMC Fire apparatus. We moved the machines to his garage and they're still there and I live in Indianapolis, about 45 mins away and I haven't had a chance to get back yet. The Selectivend is also still locked with no key, of course, so we have to drill the lock if we can't find numbers. Plus the cord's VERY cracked so I'll replace that before I plug it in. The Vendorlator is missing the bottle stack and all of the shelves, (anybody got any?), and again the cord was bad so we didn't try it. It needs a coin changer as well but he bought about 15 of them at the auction so maybe one of them will work. I don't know if the changer is still in the Selectivend as, like I said, it's still locked.
My buddy bought a Dixie Narco 5 selection can machine for $35.00 (I think) and it kicked right on and started to cool but needs charged as it didn't cool much.....but did run. I hope mine do as well.
The Selectivend is painted up for Nehi Beverages on the sides but has a Pepsi sticker on the front, it's my avatar. I plan to change the branding. I have a Coca-Cola themed kitchen but I'm thinking about something different just to add some variety. The Selectivend is small enough to go in the corner of the kitchen so I'm thinking about doing that. I've been going back and forth between the yellow one branded for RC Cola that came up when I entered Selectivend 1-a into Google and the green one for Dr. Pepper pictured on this site under 1-A.
I'm kind of committed to Pepsi for the Vendorlator cause it has a molded Pepsi as glass, and that's fine.

This was a fun auction with a lot of machines being saved from scrappers and that's a very good thing.

Steve,

Welcome aboard SMC! It's great to have you. I live about an 1 hour and 20 minutes south of you down in Bedford.

Are these your first machines? If they are, it sounds like you are off to a good start. The parts you need for your 81 will turn up pretty quick.
