I have seen things go for nothing that are not posted and then when they are relisted and some one posts it on here it get a lot of big=ds. There are a lot of lurkers on here that see us talking about something and then buy or at least bid. It could have gotten no traffic before it was posted here i mean how many people search popperette??? But now that it is posted here thousands of people can potentially see it. I get a ton of calls from people that say they check this site every day but are not members.

Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: rayg on July 06, 2010, 10:39:51 pm Brian, I think it's cool and really captures that futuristic look of the 50's. After you get it going, maybe you can make a You-Tube video of the operation. I appreciation the engineering behind it, especially when it show how they did things without electronics controls and just relied on the mechanics of the gears and cams to control the machines operation.

I would have to agree with Cokemachines, the salt shaker isn't original. That is the only thing that I see, from the auction pictures, that isn't original.
It's a later model with the modified Main Cam to provide "kick-out" at the end of the popping cycle to eject all remaining popcorn, it also has the Heating Element Power Applied Light, the cage-style Salt Shaker Holder, the red lettering, 'Watch It Pop" on the Plastic Front Cover, the side hinged/side locked stand door, and no Low Oil Level Cutout Switch (Mercury Switch). After looking closer I also noticed that your machine doesn't have a coin mechanism or a coin return cup, which is how it came from the factory. I also see that the aluminum "trash funnel" is more than likely a replacement due to the fact that it isn't bowl shaped and is more or less flat. Be very careful with that glass globe! That break near the bottom that makes it super prone to breaking all of the way! Just a note, there are no replacements available for it! Nice looking machine and will clean up nicely.. Ray G, Looks like someone posted my video, and Larry posted his,, these are the only two popperette videos out there,,, Larry's is more descriptive but clearer, and mine is the full cycle but I gotta reshoot it as it is grainy.. new video camera coming this week so will shoot another and post.. They are cool machines that is for sure. Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: aristocrat on July 07, 2010, 11:09:06 am boy, .......did you two guys really want that machine ...........................................i mean really want it! really interesting thread this one when you read it all in one go after it has happened.....like I've just done dont think you two guys were the inspiration for the legendary rolf harris' "two little boys" record single does jim have a boxing referees kit..? maybe he needs to get himself one... For the forum member named "Cokemachinesandmore" Splendid that you enter into the spirit, It does you great credit indeed! However as i have said to the good doctor Watson many times............ "You know a conjurer gets no credit when once he has explained his trick" GP not SH Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: mznb1u on July 07, 2010, 12:58:43 pm I know many of the people on this site try not to bid against each other on machines, especially if they are only thinking about buying the machine and flipping. I think things change when it is a machine that you plan on buying and keeping--especially one that does not come up to often.
If this was a Westinghouse standard cooler and one member outbid another, I think that would be an issue (although I have seen them go for $6,000 on E-Bay! :tounge: ). But on a rare item like a Popperette, I don't see that there is an issue. I am sure that many people on this site (include me in that group) were watching that item even before the E-Bay cat was let out of the bag on SMC. And we all had a max bid that we were willing to place if it did not got to high (again guilty as charged). If it had stayed under $2K I would have probably been in the mix as well. Last year when a Stoner Jr. with a Gum Wheel came up several members were bidding on it and I think Frank ended up getting it. It is a rare machine that you don't see too often. We can do our best to stay out of each other's way; but, in the instance of a rare machine I think you are going to have multiple members bidding whether they admit it or not. This is still a great forum and all of the members that I have interacted with go out of their way to help each other but we all know when you want a machine as a keeper and you have the cash available you are going to go for it! :drinking: Tim :drinking: PS: If a Cavalier C9-871/494 ever comes up: http://soda-machines.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=247&Itemid=14 I will not only be bidding against you but I will also be looking for several of you to help me pick it up and deliver it to my garage! 8) Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on July 07, 2010, 01:04:43 pm Will the real GP please stand up. LOL and I thought I was goinng to be bored at work today. Thanks for the entertainment. Now off to las vegas for 10 days. Does anyone want to use my season tickets to the cubs or white sox while I am gone ? Larry mills 400
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Larry on July 07, 2010, 01:18:29 pm I know my wife would love to go to a Cubs game. Too bad I don't love my wife. :tounge:
Maybe we could get some GINGER snaps and listen to some PRINCE on the way there. Wait, that doesn't make any sense. I'll pass that along to Sherlock. Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: vendo39 on July 07, 2010, 01:22:04 pm I think we need a sign up sheet so we can determine in advance whose turn it is to win the the next Popperette on Ebay! I too was bidding on this but I was a few hundred short this time. I think I have bid on five machines on Ebay now and I've lost them all to someone on this site.
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on July 07, 2010, 02:22:03 pm Larry, Ginger is that something like a boy named Sue? like as in my guy Johnny Cash (THE MAN IN BLACK)

For some people the thrill is in the hunt! A little competitiveness is good, it keeps people sharp and makes for interesting, but harmless fun. Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Seven181 on July 07, 2010, 05:54:35 pm Wow, I never thought bidding on an item would lead to this. I know many of you and have had the pleasure of picking up and taking items to you from all over the country. I love this site and the people on here are great. Had I known this was going to cause this much grief, I would not have bid on the item. Thus, it is a great machine and one that does not come up very often. I placed a bid at the start of the auction as well. You see, I do have more than on Ebay name!
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on July 07, 2010, 06:55:02 pm Wow, I only have one name on this site and one on eBay. But then again I don't try and hide anything . So if anyone wants to know I am a48indian on eBay. Referring to my 1948 indian chief with an original Indian sidecar.
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Seven181 on July 07, 2010, 07:31:28 pm Two names on Ebay, mine and my wife's. No why, I did not want other 7up collectors to know I was bidding on items when I was buying 7up stuff, so I would use my wife's from time to time. Ebay is all about winning, why bid on something, if you A) You don't want it and B) you don't plan on bidding to win it. Though I have issues with Ebay, when I bid on something, it's because I want it for my collection.
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Larry on July 07, 2010, 07:44:21 pm As Tommy Chong says in Up in Smoke while Cheech is freeking out in the car after that big stoggie......MELLOW, MELLOW,MELLOW, BLAHHHHHH.
Just start at around 4:50 to 5:35 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=067FMmyrXmQ I think you both need a chill pill, or a big doobie. Plenty of Popperettes out there. Personally, I bid on Ebay to buy it. I hate to be a jerk but if I want it and you want it, well to me, that just means we have one thing in common. It doesn't mean I wont bid on it. If I do have a gentlemens agreement with someone, usually I'll ask how much are you willing to spend. Then whoever has the most cash would bid. This way you don't jack the price up unecesarily. But I am not going to ask permission from everyone on the site before I bid on something. How howky is that? If you want it, go for it. If you don't get it then .....Mellow, Mellow, Mellow, BLAH!! Deal with it. Rayg, you're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Seven181 on July 07, 2010, 07:46:19 pm Really, I agree. I am done with it. It's over, let's move on.
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Creighton on July 07, 2010, 07:55:33 pm Folks,
Please stay on topic and hold the crap to a minimum. High bidder wins the auction. Didn't win? Bid higher next time. Thanks in advance, Creighton Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Eric on July 07, 2010, 08:55:16 pm don't let a machine ruin a friendship or burn a bridge... they're out there... There are some great
folks on this site.. some have machines I'll never be able to own... And that's alright... Getting the word out what your looking for helps... there are a few here I've met in person and yet to meet that call me and/or drop me PMs on leads, auctions, etc. I do the same. If there's a auction... the last place to mention it is on a site where hundreds gather that have the same interest... There are vistors on here everyday... looking for leads on coin-op Always better to post after you've unloaded the item in your garage. Don't let something like a old machine eat away at you... Not worth it... I'm gonna close for now, pop some popcorn in my microwave and watch a movie with my 8 and 5 year old... Priorities  Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Seven181 on July 07, 2010, 08:58:02 pm
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: davethebirdman on July 08, 2010, 01:45:41 am I have to confess that I have two ebay id's too... The idea was that one was to buy and one was to sell. Particularly the way ebay is set up now where prices of items you have bought and sold can be viewed for years. I buy old vending machines add a bit of restoration and then sell them on. I don't want my potential buyer seeing how much I paid for it in an unrestored state. This could affect his decision to buy or not.. Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: BrianB on July 08, 2010, 06:08:06 am Since everybody else is in the confessing or in a "coming clean mood".....

Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on July 08, 2010, 04:32:15 pm Brian it was all in fun. Just some good old fashion ball bustin'. Welcome to the popperette club. That machine is one of the later model ones and has all the improvements. Has the heater on light. No coin rejector just micro switch. The cam has the deep cut. So it doesn't leave popcorn in the cooking basket. Also the stand has a hinged door which is a much better design. The only draw back is no chrome strips on front. Your machine does not have the coin return cup. Which would only be for display. I believe a have an extra original one. Let me know if your interested in it.
Title: Re: Popperette for sale on eBay Post by: Seven181 on July 08, 2010, 05:35:26 pm I would be interested. Thanks again. I am still looking for Under Dog (Tim).
