Title: Cavalier wiring for compressor, etc.
Post by: tarps3 on June 03, 2010, 09:05:25 am
Hi all,

I have a CS-64C Coke machine that works perfectly...well it DID until this weekend.
My main power chord "rotted" in 2 so I removed the entire cooling unit in order to re-wire it. All the original wiring is brittle and the insulation is cracked.

Here's my issue:
all of the wiring for the cooling unit ends (or originates) in a circular molded plastic junction block.
The lettering on it says "Lyall Electric" and it's about 1.5" in diameter.

It is mounted to a bracket on the side of the cooling unit and all the wires connect to it internally.
There is no way to disassemble the thing.

Is there an after-market replacement for this (Lyall apparently is out of business)?
Can I wire the unit without this unit? (i.e. installing a modern junction block and wiring everything to it?

thanks
Casey

You can makeshift a junction block - some people have used outlet boxes normally used in the home.
But I would buy a wiring harness from one of the suppliers - there are links to them from SMC here.
