Title: Newest addition
Post by: collecture on April 21, 2010, 09:38:10 pm
Picked this up today for $60
Complete (except for coin mechanism) and cools, but not sure whether it vends. The vend motor is frozen I think, but not positive. I have a spare vend motor and mech.

Why is it that all these Westy machines have damaged coin doors?  :veryangry:

Took a closer look at it this morning. Solid machine with little to no dents.
Small breakage of the door liner, but all pieces are taped together. I think I can repair it easy enough.
The selection knob has a piece missing - anybody have a good shape selection knob they want to part with? Will buy or barter!
I took the vend motor out and it was frozen stiff. I put it in my vise and tried to turn the shaft and it would budge, BUT I got it working!
What I did was take the cover off and soak it with PB Blaster, tap the shaft, sprayed again, tap the shaft, wait a bit...Hooked it up to power and gave it short spurts. On about the 3rd jolt, it came free and started spinning.

No Leonard - This is my 5th WB(C)-60/78 and all have had vandalism. People tried to break in with a crow-bar and bent the flange of the coin door. Seems (to me) that more 60's models got vandalized than 50's models - guessing that crime was not as prevalent in the 40's-50's and the 60's models had a longer service life with the price flexibility of electric mechs in them. Just my opinion though!

I always wondered if there were enough dimes in these old machines to risk going to jail for.

Great deal, Tom!  I like those SOM machines.  There is a guy here that has been trying to sell a 78 for at least a year...asking $500 but has come down to $320.  I guess he's figuring out, slowly, that it isn't as great and rare a machine as he thinks!  I'll wait until he hits $100~!

That is what this guy was asking and since the vend motor was frozen I offered $60 and got it.
I am looking for the selector dial and a decent coin door as both are damaged (but I think repairable) on this one.
