Title: DU-144 Restoration Pics
Post by: kg4mon on April 21, 2010, 05:33:01 pm
I figured I would let everyone see the progress of my first restoration and boy did I pick the wrong machine to do that :censored: ( nobody has parts ). :darn:  But it is turning out great.  I think I found all of the rubber except for one piece and I'm sure I will find something to match.  Here is some pics..  What do ya think?

Looking Great!

Did you use Hammerite on the inside or is that a powder coating?

What color of red is that on the body?

Vendo_110 that is powdercoating.  I restore alot of old cars and trucks as a hobby and I have my own powdercoat oven.  When I went to my paint store they had the coca cola red color.  We have a coca cola bottling company here in town and I guess they had mixed some for them or something.  Now I wouldn't have a clue if it was original or not.   A quick funny story... Our local coke plant had over 100 old coke machines in storage 50's to 60's and auctioned them off last year.  Some guy bought over 50 and got them for 50 to 100 dollars a piece.  I just found this out last week when I was talking to a friend of mine that works there.  I wish I would have known and was into the coke machines then.  What a gold mine!!!!!

Well, I got the small bottle door on and had a local sign guy come and hand letter the front and put on the logos.  I think I put the wrong logo on the front.  Can anybody tell me for sure if this was a 5 cent or 10 cent machine?

Looks good!  During its life that machine could have been anywhere from a 5 cent machine up to ???  At least the 10 cents will cover the bottle deposit!

Very well done!
