Hello,
I recently purchased a Westinghouse WD12 Coca-Cola cooler. It was in pretty good shape and was complete, even including the original compressor tag still attached. It was not working when I purchased the cooler. I replaced the power cord and the compressor runs, the condenser fan runs, and the coils of the evaporator get cold. The evaporator fan does not run. I read the post on replacing the evaporator fan and the directions are great. I do have a few questions though. There is a part wing nutted to the top of the compressor that I have no idea what it is. The red wire from the evaporator fan runs to this part. And a black wire also runs to it from the terminal block. The bottom of the part is stamped 220VAC doubler?
?(that is all that I can make out through the rust). According to the "Electrical Connection Chart" that is on the compressor tag this part is a "3 Mfd. Capacitor". My questions are: What is a 3 Mfd. Capacitor and will I still need it if I install a new evaporator fan? Could the 3Mfd Capacitor be bad or is it more likely to be the fan motor? I have attached a picture of the refrigeration unit and the part in question is visible on top of the compressor. I would greatly appreciate and help and info.

That would be your old evap. motor's start-capacitor, it will not be needed when you replace your old unit with a new motor as it is a two-wire (as opposed to three/split-phase) motor. here's a picture to help explain.

Thanks again for the information. I replaced the evaporator motor with a similar 1550RPM CCW rotationmotor and re-installed everything into the cooler. After running for about 15 minutes the temp. inside the cooler had dropped to 22 F and compressor was still running. I have not installed the baffles inside the cooler yet. Im hoping that I can make some adjustments on the thermostat to regulate the temp.
Any suggestions????
