Title: whats this? Post by: Ginger Prince on April 02, 2010, 12:03:07 pm Hi everyone
just been trawling thru some ebay listings and seen this 7 up machine ......................looks pretty cheap......... whats the piece on the front door bottom right? many thx http://cgi.ebay.com/7-UP-VINTAGE-VENDING-MACHINE-VERY-VERY-RARE-DEAL_W0QQitemZ140396053998QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20b041c5ee Title: Re: whats this? Post by: loman4ec on April 02, 2010, 12:36:22 pm Its a late 60's to mid 70's Vendo 56. The part on the coin door is a can puncturing mechanism. Before cans had pull tabs it had to be punched open so you put the can in and push the handle and it puts a hole in the top of the can. They are asking WAY too much for the machine. Its probably worth $250 to $400 max.

is it mechanical or electric the punch hole action? GP Title: Re: whats this? Post by: Yarochrehc on April 03, 2010, 04:37:10 pm Mechanical. it would leave the same triangle hole and a hand can opener.
Title: Re: whats this? Post by: scalebowler on April 03, 2010, 11:19:04 pm I got one of those on my machines. Not a good idea to use it with a modern can (just had to try it ends up spraying pop all over the opener, machine and also inside the machine) but the little drain hole in the bottom makes a great place to store the key. (that is if you have the machine at your home)
Title: Re: whats this? Post by: 90grad on April 04, 2010, 07:04:37 am I paid $125 for my 56 can machine. The can opener even had a heater on it to sterilize the point.
