Title: Another v63 cooling question Post by: jenkine on March 09, 2010, 12:00:45 am The machine has the original contact type thermostat. It seems no matter how cold I turn the thermostat the kick on temp is still the same. If I put the thermostat to colder, the compressor will run until the temperature is colder....say 25 degrees but the compressor does not kick back on until the temp is about 40 degrees....Is this normal?
I recd. a new non contact thermostat today but I am hesistant to install it...for one the nuts to take the old one off are rusted tight...... Also, if I put the new tstat on, do I just leave the probe coiled up or do I stretch it out? Thanks again for all the help on this site Eric Title: Re: Another v63 cooling question Post by: johnieG on March 09, 2010, 08:53:14 am the cut in temperature is the point at which the thermostat will turn the compressor "On", is normally unadjustable or "fixed" on most thermostats, unless of course you buy one that has an adjustable "cut-in" point.
The thermostats knob adjusts the "cut-out" point (the temperature point when reached, will turn the compressor "off" ) you can leave the majority of the coiled sensing capillary tube coiled & tie-wrapped out of the way, just make sure it ( the excess coiled capillary) doesn't contact the meatl of the evaporator, you can leave about 6" of it straight at the end & exposed to the cold air ( again making sure that the free end doesn't contact the metal of the evaporator or the inside of the walls |
