Title: Vendo 81 B Newbie
Post by: rr82 on February 20, 2010, 10:07:09 pm
Hello, I am a newbie to this forum and to vintage soda machines. Just last week I purchased my first machine a Vendo 81B in good condition complete. The guy just wanted to get rid of it. $400.00 later I got her home. I want to get it restored, I live in Illinois, Fun-tronics and Soda Springs Vintage soda machines restoration are both around 2 hours from my home. I like the price of Soda Springs in Sandwich IL has anyone ever had any work done by them? I'll try to post a photo. Thanks!

Welcome to the site    Well your off to the right start good price and a good machine.
I've seen their site it looks like they do good work,  you may want to ask about photos of the restoration process  and ask question  how they strip a machine  soda blast or glass bead or do they use chemicals to strip a machine.

  Hope this help

WOW!! You guys respond quick! I like this forum. Jim at Soda Spings said they Bead blast and powder coat. $2700 for a full restoration. Replate chrome everything. I also had a quote from Fun-tronics his was higher but I have heard of them. Soda Springs is a new company and might just be a little cheaper to get things rolling. But I will ask to see some of his restoration process photos and visit both shops before I shell out the money. If anyone else can give me some Illinois soda restoration people I would very much appreciate it.  Thanks guys!

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about your restoration of your Vendo 81b..
I have seen Rod's work as well and he is top notch...
have not seen soda springs but I'm sure is very nice.

If I can help in any way, please feel free to contact me.

PS.. pat, thanks for the kind words!

First off, nice deal.

Secondly, never appologize for a nice Les Paul.  Gibson and Coke are like burgers and fries.

John does do nice work from what I've seen. Perhaps you could meet him @ Chicago show and he'll take it home and restore it?
(Sorry, hope I didn't step out of bounds but perhaps something you and John could work out)

I sent my  first machine out to get restored, ripped off the term I will use since this is a family forum.

No matter who you go with,  be sure to ask  questions, and keep asking until you feel comfortable.  Will parts be powder coated? Will metallic parts be re zinced or  painted?  Will the original trim be repaired, or replaced with plastic automotive trim?  How will it be shipped back?  Will you get photos of the process?  Will you get the machine you sent  in returned?  What kind of warranty is provided? Do you get pictures and updates of the project?

If you aren't getting a detailed explanation of what you are paying for, and what you can  expect, and when to expect it , walk.

I

Kilroy,

You left out a very important question:

"Can I get it turned into an Orange Crush V-81!"  8)  Sorry I could not resist!

Seriously,  Kilroy makes some excellent points.  And you got one helluva deal on that machine!

Hi guys:
Thanks for the compliment John. Not trying to take work from anyone, but he was looking for someone close. I'm sure if he chooses to go with you John he will be pleased. From what I have seen of your work you also do fine work.

I like the guitar, the only thing missing in the picture is a 57 Chevy.

Congrats! great deal on a nice machine, and welcome to the site.
