Title: VF 56 Can't get below 39 degrees?
Post by: russelltatedotcom on January 21, 2010, 07:01:37 pm
Hi Guys, I have a VF56 which has been running well for couple of years but lately the bottles are not that cold?
I turned the switch from the normal 3 it has been set at up to 5 but still I can't get the cabinet any lower than 39 degrees.
Do you think I am losing gas or is it the switch at fault.?
(if it is the switch is there a way of bypassing it to see if I can get the temp lower- thus eliminating other probable causes)

Thanks
Russell

Yes you can bypass the thermostat to test if it's the problem.

unplug the machine

remove the cover (if any) from the back of the thermostat, & remove the two wires/connectors & jumper them together with a heavier gauge wire ( 16 gauge will do, it is also referred to as 16 AWG wire here in the States) & use some electrical tape so they don't short against the chassis, & plug the machine back in.

let the machine run & now see how low the temperature will get. if it's still to warm, them you have a freon charge issue, or possibly a defective evaporator circulation fan.

Thaks Johnie G,
I forgot I  had a spare thermostat I order from Steve Ebner at Funtronics back in 08 ...and never installed!
I wired that up today, figuring that would give me the same result as jumping the wires together
I''ve been running now for 2hrs on the coldest setting on the dial and I'm only getting 50˙F so it might not be the thermostat :((
The machine is clicking on and off every 2 mins or so it's really working hard

If the compressor is clicking on and off like that then it is not really ever starting. You might need to get a new relay like a 3-1 relay. A compressor should only start up 2-3 times in an hour.
