Title: Newbie, 1st Post with my purchase, a USS-8-64K
Post by: USS64K on January 17, 2010, 08:20:35 pm
Hey All !

Been lurking for the past week and then purchased a 1975 Cavalier USS-8-64K for $250.00.   It works great and only issues are a few cosmetics that I intend to address shortly.  A special thanks to Josh Loman who has been answering questions for me off line over the past week.  I'm looking forward to learning alot from you all.  Don't be surprised if I have a TON of questions, a few of which may be completely obvious to others.  I've attached a couple photos.  First, the way it looked when purchased yesterday and the other after I removed the woodgrain with a heatgun.  (a hot tip / pun intended)  My girls got the first two sodas out of it and I snapped a quick photo.

Can you all tell me if the exterior items on the front of the machine I purchased were also available in chrome?  If so, where might I purchase them.  Some were either missing or buggered up.  The other ones are in black and I'd prefer in chrome.  Are there other Cavalier models that used the same pieces interchangeably?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Cheers!!  Mark aka USS64K

If the black parts are made of metal you might be able to have them chrome plated. Some one on here might have the parts that you are missing.

Two of the four could probably be chromed.  Other two would need to be purchased.   Crossing my fingers that I'll get some lead to pursue.  Trying to do this on a budget so it may limit my options.  We'll see...

Thanks for your reply.

I've got a USS64 parts machine in the garage, I can't remember what parts I have available, but I can help you out with the chrome.  I'll head out to the garage tomorrow after work and take some inventory/

Cool!! Thanks for the info.  I'll just have to find some in good condition that'll work on mine then.  I'll keep on the look-out. :tounge:

Here's a picture of the machine we have at the Fire Department. I hope it helps.

Yes, it does!!  The bottle opener trim and the change return of those early 80's USS64s look like they'd work on my older USS64.

Thanks for the photo!

Now, just to find the parts.   HMMMMM!!

Just looking at some photos, I have all the parts in chrome, but the coin entry bezel has some issues right around where the coin goes in.

Mark,

I have the exact same machine (also my first machine--of many) and with the exception of the coin bezel, all of the parts on my 64 are chrome.  You should be able to find them--check Fun-tronics.

Welcome to the site.

TKAZ,

Yes, it sure does look like you have the parts.   Just like you said, the coin bezel looks a bit buggered.

Drop me a personal message bout the other three pieces if you are willing to part with them at a reasonable price.

Based on the gentlman after your entry, Fun-tronics may also be another option too.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks my friend!!  I'll check Funtronics for the option of new ones too.   Rather go old and save money but if the prices are comparable, then new it is!!

Thanks!!
Mark

Your black parts are anodized aluminum and can be stripped and polished by a polishing company. the coin entry should be able to be bought by one of the suppliers on the site. If not I may have a chrome coin entry bezel but it is pitted and will need re-plated.

PAT, David and Josh.

Pat and Dave.  Thanks guys.  Happy to be here and know that I did well with my first purchase.   Looking forward to loads of fun with it and inviting family and friends over for outside parties.  I'll roll it out of the garage and we'll stock it up with glass bottled beverages!

Josh,
My coin return lever is in good shape and I have a polishing wheel in the garage.  Bet I could whip that out in no time.
If you wouldn't mind shooting me a photo of your coin bezel, I may be interested.

Thanks guys!!
Mark
