Title: what are your other collections?
Post by: VMC 81 on December 19, 2009, 10:58:07 pm
Just wondering outside of soda related collecting what other items you collect?

I collect items from the 5Os such as the all of furniture in my house as well as the patio furniture. I even have a collection of those springy ride ons that were at the parks. These are made of aluminum.

Also have a air stream trailer in the back for the kids hang out and 3 cars from the 50s.

Two cool juke boxes too. Not much in the house is new other than the electronis,TV stereo and computer.
Even have a gas stove from the 50s to cook on.

I also collect and restore vintage movie posters. I can take an old dirty poster and clean and repair to look like new.

I also do wood graining  like they had in the cars from the 30s to 50s.

what about you?

I have about 10,000 matchbooks from the 50's through the 80's - coins - stamps.
I love the old vintage manuals and am getting a small collection built of them.
I have a bunch of vinyl LP's and prefer the sound over CD's.

I also collect and restore vintage movie posters. I can take an old dirty poster and clean and repair to look like new.

Do you do this for other people or just as a hobby?

I do the poster work and wood graining as a side line for extra $$ helps to pay for new aquistions

I repair/flip riding mowers.  There are a lot of people around here that think just because it won't start, its worthless.  I can usually make a good $3-400 each, and the repairs are minimal.  I use the money to fund all of the other projects, whether is the soda machines or the Nova.

I collect some stuff from the WWII era.  I've got some ration books, stuff from the Maryland Militia (Home Guard that my grandad was in), patches, etc.  I also have a piece of Doolittle Raider #7 ("The Ruptured Duck").  A non-profit aircfart recovery group (TIGHAR) found The Duck in 1990 and cut some metal from it.  They sold 50 small pieces and gave a piece to Mrs. Ellen Lawson (Ted Lawson's widow.  Ted was the pilot of the plane.).

I also am starting to collect gray hair.

I collect many things, as I've posted before...beer cans, early beer advertising, 1920's radios, victorian/mission furniture, kids (as it would seem     ), and have old cars and a 1960 Avion trailer.

VMC 81...your house sounds alot like mine was, although mine was 1880s with a bit of modern electronics!  1950s is cool...we have a 1955 Chambers stove we can't wait to hook up and use!

Collecting vintage soda pop advertising since 1975. Collected every brand in the beginning, then switched to just Coke. Now that it is so expensive, I now focus on certain paper items, any brand. Unused menu sheets, letterheads, envelopes. Got my daughter (10 yr old) sharing my bottle cap collection.
I have 4 EM pinball machines and good size collcetion of PEZ dispensers.

I collect vintage advertising. I try collecting mostly Coca-Cola signs. Also collect old U.S. coins. I use to collect marbles years back, and now my 7 year old daughter is wanting to collect marbles again. So it looks like I'll be helping her to start a collection. Also use to refinish a lot of antique furniture years back. Still have a house full of antique furniture.

Besides the new interest in soda machines I am a collector of brewery related signage and clocks.  Sold off a lot of it over the years - stuff I wasn't really interested in anymore, but got some really nice things that I will never part with.

I collect any old signage and advertising clocks that catch my eye.  Also vintage neon signs are a favorite.

I also collect advertising things to do with my hometown of St. Charles, MO....so if anybody has any signs for Big Boy Soda please let me know...also St. Charles dairy...the ultimate would be a neon sign from the dairy.  If anybody has a lead on one of these or a Big Boy sign I am interested!

I collect classic video games (coin-op and Atari 2600).  I have about 300 different Atari games and the coin-ops are spilling over into the in-law's basement. I also colect records.  I started in the early 80's by picking up a couple of new 45's each week.  Now I tell my wife that I need some new tunes for the jukebox! My wife & I have some hot rod cars and that naturally led to restoring gas pumps, etc and that led to restoring soda machines and picnic coolers.  Kind of a progressive disease.  I'm currently restoring a 1950's EZ Kutr electric reel type lawnmower for a friend.  I will post pics if anyone is interested.

Nice  one of these days I will get a gas pump as well as a one of the air meteres. Just seems that around by me these are always priced like they are made of gold. But I keep looking.
