Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: loman4ec on December 14, 2009, 03:49:02 am I personally like the plastic. I have used it on several machines that I have done. Here are a few pics of how it turns out. Its easy to use and won't dent.
Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: BrianB on December 14, 2009, 06:26:11 am I think the plastic trim looks ok. Is your original trim in ok shape or would it need to be straightened/dents knocked out of it and then need to be polished? If so, that alone would cost you over $100 for the amount of trim that you have.
If the adhisive backed stuff was designed to work on a car that is exposed to all sorts of temps and adverse road condtions, I think it'll be fine on your machine, can't wait to see the finished project! Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: loman4ec on December 14, 2009, 10:46:12 am I buy mine online at aftermarket auto parts places for a lot cheaper. You can buy it by the box and get it much cheaper by the foot but you will have enough to do a few machines.

Thanks Guys You could get some small "christmas-tree" style trim fasteners from Autozone or ask around your local auto-body/collision shops, they have trays of Auveco trim fastners & they'd probably sell them to you cheeper than what you've found, also check out NAPA or other auto supply houses Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: sodaworks on December 14, 2009, 01:25:51 pm Pat,

Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: MoonDawg on December 14, 2009, 01:55:18 pm I restored a 90 a few months ago where the trim was damaged. Bought some aluminum bar stock from Lowes, polished and cut it to fit. Used 3M adhesive and it worked great.

and same question for you glen how did you cut your end ( and I like the looks of that Pepsi machine) Straight across or / . And John that is what I'm going to do thanks for the reminder Car quest is out they dont have those or any clips any more , but going to check Napa and the body shop. Brian I've been working on the trim for a while now and it is not bad looking, I'll post some pictures later on . It's real simple, the two top corners are cut on a 45 and the bottoms are cut at a 90. Just mark the the top piece with a sliding comb. square and trim to 45 degrees and do the same for the side pieces. Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: loman4ec on December 15, 2009, 12:20:17 am Yep I cut mine at 45 angles. When you cut them the plastic is black under the chrome so I paint the black with silver paint. The black would stick out like a sore thumb but if you paint it silver you never see it. It is too easy and looks great

That's a great idea that you put into action using the polished aluminum bar stock, I'll have to remember that. Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: Pat Pixley on December 15, 2009, 11:15:54 am Hey just to let you guys know I stopped by the body shop and got some clips
from them and they do work  I'll post pictures tonight. Title: Re: A dilemma on V90 Trim Post by: Pat Pixley on December 15, 2009, 10:10:33 pm Pictures of the clip and of the trim on the front of the machine
I really like these clips they pulled the trim up tight. I know it is hard to really get a good look at the trim but it turned out looking really good. Lots of parts to send off to get chromes and nickel plated. |
