Title: Old mexician coke cooler id? Post by: on October 24, 2003, 07:25:47 pm Hi Group!
I just picked up an old(?) Coke Cooler from Vendo Montiel. The model number appears to be GGSB 100 tho that could be 66SB or the B an 8. The serial is 4012020; I'm told it came from Jaurez, BC Mexico. Photo at http://www.4speeds.net/tome.jpg I'll put up more photos on my web site if there is any interest. The cooling unit is gone and the tub has been patched. I suspect the lid is not original. I think it was originally red but I'm taken w the yellow on it now. It does still have the Montiel medallion. Any info would be appreciated. I plan to rebuild it at some point after I learn some more. Anybody make repro lids / tubs? Pointers to cooling units / cap collectors also appreciated. I've got an offer of $125 for a cooling unit from a more contemporary machine; is this fair? I may be contacted at dspeed@4speeds.net Thanks Dave Title: Old mexician coke cooler id? Cavalier 6Case master It was produced in the mid 40s- early 50s. It look like it is missing the stainless steel peice that fit over the bottle opener. and as far as the lid need to see a better photo. this is a very cool find and as far as the yellow it all right it grows on you. and as far as parts check with Steve Ebner at Fun Tronics #301-371-5246 Pat. Thanks much for the information; I'm not so blind now! More photos (including the lid) at http://www.4speeds.net/archives/cokeweb/index.html I had been looking at these for a few months and this one caught my eye even tho it was rougher than I wanted ... Such is life. How does one go about re-doing a tub? Metal of fiberglas? SS or Galvanized? The sheet metal under the tub insulation is shot and needs replaced, so I've very inclined to putt the whole thing apart, sandblast it and start over w a replacement tub, new insulation and lis(s). I suspect I could fabricate a reasonable facsimilie of these, given time. And some idea of what the originals looked like. How were these guys cooled? Water or air? they are water cooled machines . and I would go with a galvanized tank. And keep that paint scheme. Pat P Title: Old mexician coke cooler id? Post by: on November 18, 2003, 10:40:51 pm Thanks for the follow-up.
I have markers in now at a couple of places looking for parts but am largely happy with the unit as-is. Unusual for me, but I like this one as found. Dave Title: Old mexician coke cooler id? I think it is cool with the yellow if you do any custom work to it that's alright your the that paid for it and the one that's put the time in to it . Thanks Pat P. |
