Title: Jacobs Post by: Gumbo on November 17, 2009, 08:51:55 am Hey is this a Jacobs 26 or 35? It is local and I might be able to get a good deal on it. I have never owned a Jacobs, so I don't know much about them. It is missing the drum. Are drums hard to find? What would one sell for without a drum? He also has this Texaco sign and pole.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: SIGNGUY on November 17, 2009, 09:47:35 am I have never seen a drum for sale by itslelf... Pretty hard to come by I'd say..
there are couple like that around here without drum sitting for sale , and they haven't sold . Sellers have been asking 500-600 for them.. to much in opionion. Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on November 17, 2009, 10:05:49 am Drums for the Jacob's are very very hard to find. Other than the capacity difference 26 versus 35. the main difference is in the front mech the 26 has an upright skinny handle and the 35 has a vendo like handle and the coin entry is also different.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: loman4ec on November 17, 2009, 10:17:20 am If I am correct there is a difference in the evaporator on the 26 and the 35. Yours looks to me like a 35. If I remember correctly the 26 always had the smaller evaporator and the 35 had the larger long skinny evaporator like yours. Here is the inside of a 26 that I had a while back.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: GreginNM on November 17, 2009, 10:22:38 am I've got a nice Jacobs 26 without the drum that I've been searching for a drum for coming up on 8 years now, with no luck. I got outbid once on a rusted out machine with good insides, but that's as close as I've come. Oh, yea, I paid WAY too much for mine as well...$800...this was long before I found this site and everyone's good advice! :darn:
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Crazzy Canuck on November 17, 2009, 03:36:02 pm Got outbidded on a complete Jacobs for $700 on Ebay in Boston :darn:
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Gumbo on November 17, 2009, 08:17:22 pm He wants $350 for the Jacobs. What do you all think- buy or pass? :help: How about the Texaco sign and pole?
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 17, 2009, 08:42:55 pm There is a guy I know that has two Jacobs machines I dont remember the model's
I do know he wanted to sell one of them I can stop by Saturday and find out what what model it is and if it is all there and the price if that help anyone . Gombo Do the Texaco sign and poll very cool 8). Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Gumbo on November 17, 2009, 08:46:23 pm I guess I'm trying to decide if it is worth buying without a drum. Looks like drums don't come along to often. Yea, the Texaco sign and pole are cool. VINTAGE! I don't think the wife would let me put that in the yard though.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 17, 2009, 08:54:32 pm OH come on you never know till you do it  You never know the wife may like it
Or not :oh: . Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: loman4ec on November 17, 2009, 08:56:18 pm I have seen a few drums for sale on ebay. Just a few years ago I sold a nice solid original 100% complete and cooling and could only get $800 for it. It had a big dent in it but would have been easy to pull.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Crazzy Canuck on November 17, 2009, 10:23:07 pm Hey Pat, I'd be interested in 1 of those Jacobs.
That 1 for $350, if I were you, I'd scoop it. I'm gonna check with a buddy of mine, I think he re-popped the drums a few years ago Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Gumbo on November 17, 2009, 10:39:58 pm Yea, check for me please. Let me know- thanks!
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 17, 2009, 10:53:45 pm I let you know Late Saturday or sunday plus i try to snap a few pictures .
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: GreginNM on November 18, 2009, 09:28:34 am If there are repopped drums out there, count me in for one!
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Crazzy Canuck on November 18, 2009, 10:13:21 am I'll check with my buddy this afternoon. If he hasn't got any, I'll take the one out of mine and have some made. I have a great fab guy. He made me a few for the table top coolers before ( industrial Carton)
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on November 18, 2009, 12:46:58 pm Do you have a picture of the front (actually side) of the machine. looks like it may be missing more than just the drum. Does it have the coin mech cover, cap catcher, rejector, mounting plate? I have some spare parts except for the rejector for sale.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Gumbo on November 18, 2009, 07:23:48 pm I'm going to see it this Sat. - I'll look and see what is missing.
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: MoonDawg on November 19, 2009, 12:52:03 am I would say that 4 out of every 5 Jacobs I have seen for sale are missing the drums,
but they are also missing the drum support shaft and that complex ratcheting mechanism. So fabricating just the drum might only be a start. As cool as the body looks, I have found them hard to sell because of the non-embossed letters and single vend function. Maybe that is why V-39's have reproduction parts but not 26's? Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: mznb1u on November 19, 2009, 06:46:58 am I have to agree with Pat that it would be cool to have that old Texaco sign. But I wouldn't put it up without checking with the war department or that sign might end up somewhere else! And that would make it awfully difficult to sit down!
:drinking: Tim :drinking: Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on November 19, 2009, 10:31:21 am Here is a picture of a jacobs 26
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: coke_and_stuff on November 19, 2009, 12:24:35 pm The Texaco pole is worth around $1,200 its called a Banjo Pole. I just sold a Phillips 66 sign with its original pole.
Joey Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Crazzy Canuck on November 19, 2009, 12:48:24 pm Buddy has a drum guard left. Gonna re-pop a half dozen more and get my drum re-popped
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 21, 2009, 05:03:43 pm Ok Guys I did stop by my friends place and asked about the Jacobs machine Yes it is for sale
$50 for it does have the drum inside And I have Pictures looks like a model JLC-160 by looking at the tag ? Will that drum work  ?? Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 21, 2009, 05:05:53 pm And a few more
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 21, 2009, 05:27:10 pm Just A note I called my friend and told him I will buy it and drop off the cash tomorrow,
So at least it in my hands and wont be sold to anyone else . Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: MoonDawg on November 21, 2009, 05:57:57 pm That is a Jacobs 144 and the drum is probably twice as wide as a 26/35.
And at 600# you had better be sure you can use some of it's parts before you buy it. Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on November 21, 2009, 06:05:33 pm wow i think that has to be one of the least desireable jacobs models
Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: Pat Pixley on November 22, 2009, 12:17:42 am So Glen do you think any of the part can be swapped between models ?
next question for $50 it not a bad deal just to hang onto for the parts Yes or NO Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: coke_and_stuff on November 22, 2009, 12:52:19 am If it was local for $50.00 I would buy it. Parts are parts but I also have the space for storage so there is no issue there for me.
Joey Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: RC kid on November 22, 2009, 03:22:31 pm I spend more then fifty dollars on a meal for me and the wife. Buy and save it. You never know what the future might hold.
But it sure does look to be one big machine. Title: Re: Jacobs Post by: SIGNGUY on November 23, 2009, 02:36:45 pm Those are huge machines,,, hope you have room to store it.. I wouldn't think anything is exchangeable except for coin mech, and maybe coin door if available (didnt' see in photo)..
I had seen one wher a guy made it into a small phone booth, he could actally sit in it and use the phone... they are HUGE.. |
