I would go for it but that broken louver ruins the whole machine in my opinion! 8)

Very nice original.  I will say $5,995!

My guess is ONE DOLLAR.  I hope you all overbid.  I'm using Bob Barkers rules.

I'm going to say $8000 going with the Pawn star (Discovery Channel)  rule of thumb.
And whats the prize ??

Yeah I saw that too Matt,  I was wondering if it was primer ?
Look at the coin door now that looks like it has a red tint to it .

I'll vote it won't meet reserve so we may never know price.

They just didn't get much paint on the non visible surfaces. This is probably the way they were originally since white doesn't cover well. Maybe he was going for a 100% accurate restoration

I bet it doesn't make the reserve.

But it sure is one really cool machine. And I sure would love to add it to my small collection.

Josh, I don't think it's been restored, and seller states original as well, I'd bet it's an original...

Your right. Sorry I didn't read it. It looked like it had been restored with the pictures of the cooling system out of it.

 : dud
flop, washout, misfire, bomb, turkey.  One that is disappointingly ineffective or unsuccessful.  1.n.
a failure; something that fails to perform as intended. (See also duds.) : The whole idea turned out to be a dud.

The people that did not want to take a chance in guessing a price  or play along. that all .

It does look red, but I have an original vmc 81 7up. Mine looks the same. The one I have is in as nice condition as this one nly no broken louver.

What broken louvre? I do not see one - I see the condensation pan attached to the louvres - is that what you guys think is a broken one?
$5626 is my guess

OK, now that I have been able to get on and see the pictures of the machine...DAMN, that's a nice looking machine!   :jawdrop:  I would have to venture a guess of $5400 (but it won't be me!     )  Should be much more, but the economy is not helping!

Title: Re: 7 Up 81 in Wyoming
Post by: SIGNGUY on November 03, 2009, 07:17:25 pm
the guy in the description says that one of the louvers is broken, i didn't see it either but it's in his description..
original is original , broken louvre or not it's still a darn nice machine,,, would be fun to have.. last one I heard sell for near me went for 5500 so I'd say at least that.. but not sure what reserve is?

I know Jack Rudbeck will go 5k at least for it, and the said part is he will restore it.

Title: Re: 7 Up 81 in Wyoming
Post by: GreginNM on November 04, 2009, 01:45:12 pm
WHY restore something that nice?   :Oo:

There aren't very many nice ORIGINAL machines out there.  When they look that good, they should be left alone (in my humble opinion).  When they are all done up perfect, they almost look fake to me.  Something 50-60 years old should have a couple character marks.  Now, when you find a rusted/abused machine, sure...restore the heck out of it!

Just my cent-and-a-half...

I agree with you,, Iwould not restore it./u]But its's his money and he will do what he wants like usual, but Iknow for a fact he will restore it. He has taken beautiful originals and restored them. Hey when your lucky enough to keep finding embossed orange crushes, and bireleys, whats restoring a mint 7UP 81,  :happydrinkers:

Maybe he'll cut out the embossed 7up and weld an embosed Orange Crush emblem onto the machine.

Be nice uncle Lar,,, you honestly don't think he does stuff like that do you.  C'mon its possible to find the rarest machines ever in double digits no less. And be the only one in the world to find them. He has a letter from a former VMC employee that says so. I wonder if his name is Simon (sez)

Title: Re: 7 Up 81 in Wyoming
Post by: GreginNM on November 04, 2009, 05:09:55 pm
Perhaps that letter from the former VMC employee is as "authentic" as these rare machines!   :tounge:

Not as nice of a machine!

The first machine was worth 5000.00 easy.  Sleepwalk's is a 2500.00 machine in my book.  It is a straight machine but needs to be restored.

Correction:  It needs to be "professionally" restored!  8)
