Title: Seeburg Trashcan
Post by: loman4ec on October 29, 2009, 07:30:01 am
I found a trashcan with an aluminum cabinet but is missing some trim. Its missing the dome, one side plastic is bad and the back door but is complete inside and supposably worked until a few years ago and was put away. I can get it for $250 and it is local. Is it worth it? It comes with 200 78 RPM Records. What do you think?

I personally think they are ugly, but for 250, even something ugly, can make you a few bucks down the road..
If local and 250, I'd go for it..

I have a Seeburg 148, (the cabinet is steel :) )  and it's ugly cool. People keep calling it R2D2.
the platics are all repopped and available, and the trim comes up on Ebay on a regular basis.

The drawbacks  are the record mech isn't visible,  but the pilasters lightup, there is a revolving light (think barber pole in the center of the top, so it displays well when it's not playing. and it will only play one side of a 78, so you have 20 selections.

the only problem I see is locating the back door, it's netal like the rest of the macine, but I imagine one can be made, if  you can't find it on Ebay. I'd offer theem less because of the door, and yes, there are collectors who would snap it up if you were to  offer up for sale.

I still can't decide if I should buy this or not. People help me! Should I nuy it or run away. It would be to restore and sell.

If your going to restore it to resale your not going to make a lot. The trash can jukebox is not a big seller in restored condition. And the one you got there in the picture looks like it could be a money pit. This is just my take on what I have seen these sell for restored.

I agree with Rod, lots of time, money and not a big return.. wait for something with bigger return like a 50's era Seaburg or something.
