Hey Matt, beat me to the punch, was just going to ask the same question...
I know I'll be there again, and I've talked to a few others that I know will be there as well.. so should be a good group once again.

I'd like to meet up again as well, any other suggestions for places to meet or Portillos again?
there is another cool place that Eric and i have had lunch at called the Filling Station,, LOTS of Gas/Oil and SOda Memeorabilia all over the place.. might be an option?

Look forward to it..

John

I'm pretty sure I'm going to make it this year.  I'll be pulling a trailer from Kansas City if anyone needs help moving stuff along the way to or from Chicago (Like that cool Terra Cotta Coca Cola sign in Iowa) 8)

I'll go to dinner, but I'll probally pass on the show.  I reached my quota for the year.  I don't need any new projects.  Two are still in the wings.

I'm going to check out the Pinball Expo tomorrow.  The kids and the wife want to go.....yes, the wife.  She hates the Chicagoland show, but loves pinball.

Let me know when and where.  Kyle and I will hang with you folks for awhile.

If I had an extra $1,500.00, that tera cotta would be mine.

I might be there if I can get some one to go with me. If my brother won't go I'll have to convince the wife to go.

Tony, if you are ready for a coin-op experience you will definately like this show.
But if you want killer deals, wait til the vendors are packing up at the end of the show or.... rely on the old E-bay or craigslist for local listings similar to these, but ones that are closer to you.
Chicagoland is what inspired me to launch a career in restoring and selling this old stuff.
This is a coin-op "Disney World". Hope you visit and like it as much as we do.
if you take pictures, maybe you could you post some of them here?  Most of us can't get to the show very often but we like updates.
And we're so glad you joined the group!   :happydrinkers:

Thanks for the inspiration Moondawg, i am excited about this. The only problem is with waiting until the end for bargains etc, is that we would have to find a solution to store these items until Monday.
I have a shipping company that would collect from the show up until saturday, if i bought items on the sunday these wouldn't be able to be collected until monday, i suppose i may be able to rent a van.
Store them in the van until monday and deliver to the shippers in Chicago, what do you think?
As for the photos "No Problem" I have an excellent camera that i am taking with me, not the best photographer in the world though!!
I have been trying with great difficulty in getting on this forum, i have had a few login probs. But hey i am here now and thanks for the welcome.

I am sure there are several ways to store them until monday. I am sure there is a Chicago member that would probably let you keep them in their garage for a few days too.

I won't be at this show but I am moving home in January so I will be at the next show! hopefully with several machines :)

Thanks loman4ec, i would never have thought of anything like that. I suppose maybe i should submit a post asking for any help/ideas, i have the 81 and a 110, would love a pepsi rountop and thats what i am after most. My friend who's also going wants a couple of machines also, plus whatever else catches our eye!!!
I have seen a video blog on "Youtube" of the show and it looks like i will want a container full of stuff

Dave.
Hi there, long time no hear. The plan is to try and obtain some storage space, just until it can be collected on the Monday. I have bought a 39 that the shippers i am using are shipping as we speak.
The item you have requested if available is no problem, i would obviously need to contact you from the show. I plan to take my laptop etc, so either e-mail or phone you.
I think if someone wants to rent us some space until monday, then thats the way forward. You have my e-mail address, so drop me as much detail about it as you can. What things i need to check etc.

Welcome Tony:
I have a friend that comes to the show from Australia and he rents a storage space just across the road from the show. He comes to both shows. The first show he buys and stores his items in the storage unit across the road. then the second show he comes and buys and has a shipping container dropped at the show. Then he goes and takes the items from storage and puts in his shipping container and the items from the second show he purchased and ships it back to Australia. Long story short there is a storage faucility across the road from the show. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks Rod, i am getting better info now and its all coming together. I will check that out on arrival, we arrive on the tuesday afternoon. I suppose we could use the wednesday to have a look around the area near the show, things are slightly differant here in the U.K, although in the last couple of years self store facilities have sprung up.
I think as this is the first time visit, it will be a case of BUY,STORE and SHIP. Also the tax rate here goes back up to an amazing 17.50% from January, therefore we need to BUY & SHIP as soon as poss before the increase.

I have half a garage that is empty, but I'm 30 miles from the show.  If the place across the street doesn't work out feel free to drop them off by me.

I would cast a vote for Portillos again if you are still undecided.  Also I have already talked to Jay Booher, he said he would be able to make it, he's alway ready with soda related stories.

I don't think we have decided where to meet yet and a few have suggested either Filling Station or Portillos.
I at first thought Filling station would be fun as it fills with memorabilia and such.
However after thinking about it a bit more..
It might be hard with a large group, as it's table service and might be hard to split up the bill.
Parking lot is not as big for those with trailers?
not sure how large of a table we can get ?

So I guess my vote would be Portillos again as it just works out better,,,

maybe the first who get there .. see if they can arrange the tables better so we can all talk, instead of the long table?
or maybe we can get a spot off to the side ?

My two cents..

Thinking about heading out to the show with my sons.  I have never been and I think they would get a kick out of it.  Is it worth it to buy the $50 preview ticket?  Not sure if I will be able to get there until late Friday anyway.  And I am just going to look!

When is everybody getting together for dinner--is that Thursday or Friday?

Let me know.

Thanks!

Tim,
you should definately come to the show.. first off we are getting together for Dinner on Thursday Night,, I am pretty sure were set on Portillos again, which is just down the street from Pheasant run, and I am thinking we are shooting for 6:30 or 7pm .. have to finalize that yet...

As far as the early preview pass for $50.00 ... if your buying then it's nice to have so you can get inside as dealers are unpacking, but usually no deals inside anyways.. so if bringing the boys, come Friday to hunt around, stay Friday night and then go in with them on Saturday for $5.00 and they and you will have a great time looking around , playing games and just drooling..

ALso, in the past Eric and I have gotten together for lunch on Friday after "Hunting" all morning, and more are welcome to join us.. we usually go to the filling station for their awesome hamburgers..

Title: Re: Fall Chicago Coin Op Show
Post by: Marvin on November 05, 2009, 04:46:06 pm
So if you are hunting around outside you don't have to pay the $50.00?  I am sure I will go inside at some point though.

I was wondering how that worked.  I'm planning on coming in sometime thursday.  Bringing my wife and kids so I don't know how long it will take to get there.

Title: Re: Fall Chicago Coin Op Show
Post by: SIGNGUY on November 05, 2009, 04:52:56 pm
Great Marvin,
Hope you guys can join us for Dinner on thursday night too..
Yeah you only have to pay the $50.00 on Friday for the early entry inside the buildings.. Outside is free... I have paid it in the past, just to look around inside as I usually don't stick around till saturday,, and fun to see all the REAL NICE stuff inside as the dealers are setting up, before I go.. not sure what I'll do this year yet.
The show actually opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday and its only $5.00 per person to get in, so thats the time to bring the family.
