I think you made the right choice. I don't believe the $3,000 line.
Some have been on eBay lately and haven't sold for even $399.00 (though that one is missing some stuff.)

I got lucky and got one on ebay a few weeks ago for just $61.00, but it is missing some chrome and needs a new paint job and is in the middle of nowhere (I have another LONG drive ahead of me).

That one looks very nice, but you were smart to stop wen you did.

This model is big, very heavy and (unlike the 39) the drum can only hold single flavor 6.5/8 oz. bottles. All of those restrictions add up to a machine that is not as sought after as others.

From your one picture, it looks like it may have a dent by the lock on the left-hand side.

But PLEASE do post more photos, I'd love to see them.

Hello

Here are the piss poor pictures of the Cavalier 51. This guy had so much stuff piled into a garage I could not get a picture of the front of the machine.

Hello

No I did not make an offer on the C51.  the fellow wanted 750 for it & I was taking heat at home. I thought it was is pretty good shape but I did not really want a machine that would only take small bottles.  I just want to buy the slant shelf vending machines.

Slant-shelf machines aren't the only square-tops able vend different size bottles.  The Westinghouse Multidrinks have adjustable chutes to fit different sizes also.
