A guy near me has this for sale.  Looks like a 144, but the window and lack of a bottom vend is throwing me off. I am not going to pretend to know much more than what the photo shows, so I figured i would ask the experts! He wants $800, which is way too much (based on what nice 144's seem to be selling for).

What exactly is it, and what is it worth??

Thanks!!

It looks like a 144 but they don't have bottle doors. It must be some kind of transitional machine. It looks like a 144 3 selection but transitioned into a 144 with multi selection. Its a nice looking machine but it's big and heavy. If I bought it I would buy it to use myself. Lots of capacity. Good luck

Looks to be a modfied 144. The  bottom vend chute is still there, you can see the outline, it appears to be plated  over. The door was added to make a single vend  machine a multi vend. Cheaper than scrapping the machine  and putting a new one  in its place.

Looks like a selectivend conversion. I have never seen it on an electric 144 but have seen them on the manual 144. If you are not familiar Selectivend made conversion kits for the Vendo 83, Vendo 39, Vendo 144, selectivend S48 Selectivend S96 and possibly others. The kits did away with the drums and or stacks in these machines and converted them into slant shelf machines. SOme are cool looking but some like the V83 version look chopped up. If you have a copy of the Jeff Walters 3rd edition price guide there is a picture of a conversion V39 on the back cover. Here is a pic of the V83 conversion

Almost forgot. It may be rare but that does not mean valuable. Its not worth even close to $800. Its a big tall heavy machine. Maybe $200 max in my opinion.

Neat looking conversion--first one I have seen.  $800 is too high and remember that machine weighs 400 so being a lot of help if you buy it!

I'd pass. Better machines to be had.

Also keep in mind that with any "rare" machine especially the S/V conversions, they must be 100% complete at any price, as parts are very few & far between.

It looks like it is in very nice condition also. Doesn't look like you would have to restore it.

Not to hijack the tread, but...

What would you think the selectivend 83 is worth Josh?

I have that same machine.  It is a nice, rust free complete machine but it does not cool.  I have not done a thing with it since I picked it up for $100 several years ago.

I have been thinking of selling it as it is just sitting in the basement collecting dust.  I haven't bothered trying to fix the cooling system; I imagine that I would spend more on repaining the cooling system than the machine is worth.
