Title: Evaporator & condenser fans don't start
Post by: cccc5151 on May 20, 2014, 09:05:44 pm
Hi, I am in the process of restoring a pepsi vendolator 33. When I plug it in and turn the thermostat on the compressor works and cooling unit gets cold. However, neither the evaporator or condenser fan start.  When I got the machine, I was told it hasn't been run in over 30 years.  Any thoughts on what could be wrong or what I should check.  Thanks for your help.

Sounds like both motors are seized up, not uncommon for not running in 30 years.  You may be able to get them spinning by manually turning them first, but if you are restoring then I would just replace both motors.

There are a couple different models available from Funtronics, you may need to double check with what you have:

Thanks! I am hoping that's all it is. I should have pointed out that both blades spin freely, but the motors don't seem to be working.

You can verify by checking for 120V on the lines for each motor, the evap motor should be 120V all the time and the compressor motor should be 120V when the compressor is running

Check your wiring too... Prob could use a new wiring harness.

Thanks for your help!  I checked the voltage and both motors are getting 120v.  The wiring harness looks pretty good.   So I am hoping it's the motors.  I'll be ordering new ones from funtronics.  I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again

Since you are replacing the motor you may also change the fan blades!  Your going to have them out to replace the new...

Also you could take the old motors out and just test them by simply cutting the end of a cheap extension cord and wire tieing the 2 leads.

I'm not to good with meters always has worked for me to rule out if the motor is bad!
