Picked this up locally for $52, I'm thinking this was a pretty good deal, any idea what it's worth?  It's a Vendolator but is missing the tag so I'm not sure about the model, I'm thinking it's a 56.   Cools nicely and is pretty straight all parts including lock and keys, it's a ugly machine all brown with a 7up sign, was this a standard color scheme?  Planning on refinishing it, probably Coca-Cola,  It's also been converted to cans, not sure if this is a good thing or not.

The marquis  is form the early 70's, No i don't think  brown was ever a 7-Up color scheme.  you did very well, it looks to be in good condition.
I'd think about a green and leaving it 7-Up, I love coke,  but the sign reeks of hipness

Awesome price!
I like the sign. It's "in" right now. We just got back from Target and were commenting on all the greens, oranges, and light blues that are popular right now. I agree with Kilroy. Think about changing the color scheme to match the sign and leaving it 7Up. I also think that it is a plus, with this machine, to have it able to vend cans.

Nice pickup! I would paint it green also and leave it as a can machine...cheaper to buy cans than bottles.

I don't think any of these were "true" Peter Max artwork. Its his style, but I think Peter Max would have been WAAAAY to expensive for 7UP to commission for as much artwork as there is in this period. Its "like" Peter Max would have done. I know, I know. Lets not get technical. But his art was expensive and moreso today.

His artwork was licensed by 72 different corporations according to his biography. I think 7UP could afford him after all they more than likely paid millions in advertising in the 70's. They used to be one of the top selling brands.

I don't know if Max designed the marquis  for the machine, but  he did do commercials for  7up in the early 70's. I also seem to recall an PSA he did for the american Cancer Society  from the same time .

It was form his artwork  for the commercials that I learned about him
