Well,
I found this locally. It looks pretty good, but needs a clean and shine. It didn't come with keys, so how do I get in? Do I start drilling? What do you think of this machine?

Pictures may be decieving but it looks shorter than a regular ideal 55? is it a 35? or is the picture distorted. give us the length? if it is a 35, complete with rack and coin Mech... Oh Boy!! nice score.

As far as getting in. the side loading door will have a lock cam in it, and if no key will need to be drilled out, but be carefull not to go too far or be too agressive with it, as behind the lock cam is a hex head made for a 1/4" allen wrench that actually opens the door. As far as the coin box, drill it out.

Hope this helps.

I posted about this back on 1/23.  It was a slider that was on Craigslist for $225.  Here is the original link.  LINK

I certainly wouldn't say that and it looks to be in real good dhape.  Do you know if it cools?  I'll defer to other members who know more about whether this is an Ideal 85 or some other model.  The fact that it says A-70 is interesting because I believe the Ideal 55s are A-55.  The A55 vends 55 bottles, the A85 vends 85, so could this vend 70 bottles?

Yeah  after looking at the hinges on the top door, looks more like an ideal 85, hence the odd shape? Being it has the rack and coin mech. still worth more than without...

Hello

Does the side lock  have any numbers?

My Ideal 55 came complete with locks, keys & crank arm. I may be able to get a key made. I can post a few pictures  of all the keys & locks

The side lock might be missing. When I look in the hole I see a allen nut. I was able to open it. The coinbox has a regular circle key.

Is there an alphanumeric code on it?

That is the type lock it is.
Usually the locks had an alphanumeric code stamped into the face of the lock (ie. KT711 or XX3937).
Keys had a matching code.
Some experienced locksmiths can make a key from the lock, but they need to have depth guages so they can measure the keyhole.

Yes, drill the lock in 8 places around the center.

The side door uses a 3/8" allen wrench as a key.

This is the 4th ideal 70 that I've seen pop up within the last year.

Ideal had a 35, 55, 70 and a 85. It is personal preference but I like the sliders.  If it is complete and cools I think you made a good deal.  I can not tell from the picture does it have any embossing on the front.

No embossing. i ended up paying $150. The cord has been cut. I will put on a new one this weekend and see if it cools  '<img'>

150 is a good deal.  A lot of the guys up here prefer the round tops but I personally like the sliders.  I have a 55 and an 85. One good thing about the 70 and 85 they have slide out compressors that are easy to work on.  Be sure and look the wiring over before you put the new cord on, make sure there are no bad spots that will short out.  With no embossing and the orange color you can come up with a crush or nesbitt decal and have a neat looking machine.

Whoops like I said a nice coca cola fish decal and you are in business.  At my age color blind is just one of many problems... '<img'>

Most likely you''ll want to remove the rack completely and clean it up and maybe repaint it, Hammertone paint on it would like nice and is fairly durable. then you can decide on what your doing to the rest of it. if it's displayable and you just want to use it, I'd just decal it with what you want and filler it up.  Just an FYI if you do want to go with a Fishtail logo from Coca-cola like you see on the Glasco's... let me know I can most likely hook you up with the size you need.
