First post here, and I'm sure that this is a basic question, but I have a Portable Elevator Mfg. Cooler box type machine that I had restored several years ago, and, sadly, the original sealed compressor finally gave up the ghost.  I was quoted a price of $1000 for a new 1/5th horsepower unit installed, but that seemed a little steep.  I just wanted some expert feedback before taking the plunge.

I would contact Eric at Global Compressors; your price quote seems quite high to me as well!
He's a site sponsor on the home page.

$1K !!!  Yikes!!!    my average charge for replacing a compressor is $350 for 1/4 HP...

Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

This might be too late, but I am removing a working Refridgeration system from a PELCO cooler and have no immediate use for it.. it's complete and working... Contact me if interested and we can see if we can work something out..
